Hey guys. I had a busted transmission case. I baught a new case and just got everything put back together. It has all new seals and crank bearings. The top end was honed and the piston replaced. The TORS is jumpered. At first it started right up and smoked like a train untill the excess oil I had coated everything with prior to assembly burned off. It seemed to run fine. I took it for spin and eveything seemed fine besides a very poor throttle curve. When I got back and put it in nutral, the engine reved, on its own, to fairly high throttle. When I tried to flip the kill switch, the engine kept running. I put it in gear, eased the clutch on, and the engine died with very little effort. The ground wire is connected to the magneto. Couple days later I was planning to tune it up, and it wont start. It has spark, and the plug looks clean. I took the carb appart and re cleaned it. I pulled the stator and the key isnt sheared. Any ideas?

Sound like an Air Leak to me , Careful with air leaks on these motors , they tend to make it Act all kinds of Crazy , Have you done a Plug chop to check your Jetting ? , Also what mixture are you running ?

30 to 1 mixture. Whats a plug chop? It acted like an air leak, I just want to believe I am a better mechanic than that:) When it was in gear, it idled fine.

a Plug chop is where you go for a ride with it , bring a Brand new plug with you , find a spot large enough to go from a stop to wide open , Put the new plug in and go wide open throttle from 2gear to 6 , pull in the clutch kill motor , stop quad and swap to old plug , Now take the new plug you just tested and cut the Threads off and look at the porcelain ,and let us know what color and if it has a Ring on the porcelain

Well you should be mixing 32.1 !

Thanks for explaining the plug chop. Since my engine wont run, guess that will have to wait untill later. The engine doesnt even sound like it wants to start. It is hard to believe a leaky gasket or seal would do that.

Not a Problem , Look it up on here there is a How to i Believe ! , these motors are kind of Touchy , they like to have the Right Air/Fuel Ratio otherwise they wont run worth a crap , What modifications do you have ?

Although 30:1 will put you slightly on the lean side, it should not make enough difference to return your symptoms.

32:1 will make jetting eaiser as most peeps use it and it is used as a reference when giving advice.

The reason that the motor ran wildly is because of an air leak, or fuel starvation, causing excessive heat in the combustion chamber= detonation.

You need to do a compression test to see if any damage was done to the piston and rings.

It is very important that a motor is leak tested after a rebuild..

Do not attempt a plug chop until you are sure thet the engine is leak free.
