I figured I throw this one out there cause I would like some feedback.Does anyone know what temps you should be reading on the blaster engine an exhaust.I have a Vitos 240 kit,34mm pj carb, and fmf gold fatty w/stinger.I just finished freshing up the top end w/ a hone and new rings.I want to make sure the breakin of the new rings is allright. Thanks for any help.:D

not to sure on the temps bro, but any issue with bad heating or overheating is gonna be a carb jetting issue, ur sparkplug will pretty much tell ya exactly what ur engine is up to, do some plug chops to make sure

Hey blasterfreek. The plug looks good after 2 heat cycles on the engine. My bro morph went thru the carb and said we where goin to play w/ the jetting alittle.I believe the main is a 160 and the pilot is a 60 i am not 100 percent sure thou.We are going to try 1 size up and down on both to see if we get a better result.Right now the throttle cable has no adjustment left and needs to be replaced the bike will not idle with the current cable.Just thought there might be an optimal temp to look for w/ a temp gun.

ive shot my cylinder and other spots of the engine after riding and its usually around 280ish in the hottest spots. which is cooler than i thought it would be really..

i also have read mid 2's max low 3's, but hey beings it's cooled by the air about all you can do is jet a little richer if you think your getting too hot but as long as your plug looks good and your piston and rings are bbq'ed your good to go

I am getting the engine build at the moment and I have been told by the guy thats doing it that the octane level of the fuel plays a big part in engine temp. I dont know what the octane is over in the states but pump fuel here in Ireland is around 94 so he has advised running an octane booster aswell with the fuel to make it run cooler. Is this true.

Our air cooled motors have a built in overheating warning.
When they are over heating they will run like crap lol
This is partly from the friction of the piston over expanding against the bore, the mixture pre-igniting, and from the mixture burning even before it gets into the combustion chamber (the head).
If your a habitual overheater you will see a burn spot UNDERNIETH the piston from the mixture burning before it gets up top.

this is the same thing that happens when a motor will not shutoff even when u pull the plug wire off, right?

Most of the time thats from some kind of air leak (broken intake, blown seal),
But yeah pre-ignition from over heating does it too :)

Thank you for the info. This weekend I should have some different size jets coming in thru the mail.I believe it needs the jets changed after rebuilding.I also have to install a new set of reeds and throttle cable so I am waiting for everything to arrive hopefully by weeks end.

Thats what my bro morph tells me.He is more of the 2 stroke guru then I am so I go by what he recommends.I just want to ride and have fun with it.I can do most of my own work, but I am not up on all the after market stuff you can get.

I am not sure what he runs w/ his bike.I know he is switchin to race gas for his bike.He also put on a set of bigger pipes on swapping out the toomies he used to have.I just saw the bike over the weekend and dont remember what they where.CPI is a guess?
