I searched, but didn't find anything that satisfied me so I thought i'd ask.

I recently picked up a '93 from a guy for a couiple of boxes of ammo. It needed a new clutch handle, rims/tires and a new rear axle due to it being ridden long after the bearings in the carrier came apart. It has been sitting for about 4yrs since the guys kid joined the military with noone messing with it.

I have it close to being ready to go. Today I kicked it over real slow twice just to make sure the engine isn't frozen. It moves, but feels really stiff. I was thinking of pulling the plug and pouring in some oil and kicking it a few times minus the plug to lube it.

What would you guys suggest? Believe it or not, the fuel was all ran out prior to parking.

New oil and complete new gasket set sitting here as we speak. Ran some denatured alcohol through the tank today to clean out any gunk that might be in there. Once I get it running, it will be time to spend more money.

take the carb apart, one of the wost things to do to a carb is let it sit without fuel in it. pour alittle motor oil in the cylinder and let it sit for 5 to 10 min. have you drained and changed the trans oil? if not drain it and look to see if any water comes out, if any does stop there and pull the clutch cover off and check for rust. if theres no water in the oil then your good. i would also pull the head off and check the cylinder for ANY rust marks if there are ANY rust spots or mark pull the whole top end apart and check the piston for cracks and bottom end for water. other then that fill it up and run it.

The cylinder should be good as long as nothing was exposed. Was the carb and filters on it when you got it? WD-40 is what you should spray in the cylinder. Not oil. Oil will not hurt but it will focus on one spot. The WD40 will be able to hit from all angles. I would us a whole can. You will need to get it back out though. Turn it upside down. If you got it for some ammo, i would not waste money until I heard popping out of the exhaust. TopTech is right about the carb. The floats are probably stuck and the gaskets are probably beyond saving. You do want to check the tranny fluid as well. Still I would just start the damn thing to see if it is worth spending time and money.

if it was me i would pull the whole top end off and get a good luck at everything. then fill your crank case with oil and turn it over a few times and let it sit, turn it over, let it sit. rinse and repeat. when i first got my engine it was full of water and i did as described above and have ran the sh*t outta it for 5 months now.
