OK I am ready to get going again. New piston, bottom end cleaned out and ready to rock. I need advise on the timing. If I put the timing back to the standard hole's the bike will start but won't run. If I put the timing where the new hole's are drilled it will start and run but I think the timing is out. What else needs to be setup to make the bike run at it's original setting and not a timing advance. Picture's to follow.

Something is'nt right. As you advance timing a engine becomes harder to start. As you advance timing it also starts to fight the engine at high rpm's. If it starts and runs better only on the timing advance I would say your timing is retarded to start with. A guy on this site had to rotate the stator 90 degrees from the stock holes before it would start. Nobody knows how that could happen, but it did. I dont know how to find and mark the stator for proper timing but I would drill a bunch of holes and start slowly rotating.

i would just get another stator man, mabe borrow one somewhere.....it will be tough to get it back to stock with having the right stock holes....but u could also just drill them and slowly advance it to check it

Went racing again this weekend and the bike lasted the whole session. I put the timing back to standard and ran a 270 jet as suggested by someone on this site. After the first race I pulled the plug for a look and it seems to be still a bit lean (a grey colour). Instead of rejetting again I put some two strock (about four cap fulls) down the spark plug hole. She ran well and when I pulled the plug after the second race it was a black brown colour which is slightly rich put it ran the full term. I also done it for the last race and it was also ok.

I know it's not the way to sort the problem but we finished three races and thats the first time this year.

Whats next? If my mixture is to rich will the bike only suck the petrol through the jet and leave the oil behind. Is this something that can happen because the oil is heavier then the petrol?

Peter

just get the jetting correct, bump that main up to a 290 or so,
and no it wont "just suck fuel, leaving oil behind" once it's mixed, it's mixed, but mixing it rich isnt a substitute for proper jetting, nor is pouring oil down the plug hole, get 'er jetted properly or you're gonna be making a rebuild thread soon

^^^^^ agreed, giving the engine a super rich mixture is not helping it get the proper ammount of fuel..

You must understand that when you increase the amount of oil in the fuel you have less gas in mixture and actually lean the engine out more.

BINGO

the jet allows an amount of FLUID through, the more oil you put in it, the less fuel that can pass through, and the leaner the bike will be.
