Al.
I just got my first blaster,I traded my kx250 for it,it was nt running when I got it.. I found that the woodruff key was sheared off the flywheel so I replaced it..
The bike started up good and revved fine,so I put it in gear and let off the clutch only to find all 6 of the gears are reverse!

Im assuming that the timing must be so advanced that its firing on the up stroke, and causing it to fire backwards....

I found some one has filed out the mounting holes on the stator plate, both directions and didnt mark the original location of the stator,so I have no idea where the timing should be...

If anyone could help me figure out this problem it would be much appreciated..

If anyon has pictures of stock stators on the engine, that wouldnt mind posting them that would be awesome.. THANKS

I did search it.it was his flywheel key.... I just replaced my woodruff key and now its running backwards, with the new key in..

Its staying put,I marked the end of the crank shaft, and the flywheel, and the flywheel is staying where it should be....

you guys dont get that he said the timings been filed out both ways and he needs the original location. thats all there is to it i belive, unless you've got the stator mounted the wrong way.may need to flip it. but i dont think theres a way to get the original timing back. maybe someone else knows.

actually 180 degrees out it probably wouldn't run, it would be firing at the bottom of the stroke, and if it even lit it would just fire right out the pipe and transfer ports.

it's probably just advanced a few degrees to far, you could simply retard it some, try it, and advance in small steps till it seems like it's makin peak power or starts knocking then retard it a degree or so.

Mine is mounted opposite then the one in the picture, the wires are coming out the right side of the engine case. Hope that makes sense... So mine is on upside down?

yea i believe your stator is upside down... from all the pics i have seen. the black thing should be on the bottom

yea, if it advanced to much it does pretty much the same thing as detonation(fires to early)

for it to run backwards it only has to be the opposite of what it is normally

e.g. it fires 15* before tdc to run forward if it fired15* after tdc it would run normally but backward

it it is advanced to far it will run crappy but backwards (its firing after the piston has reached tdc)

just make it perfectly at tdc and you will have 5-6 speed reverse and 5-6 forward on your blaster :) (depending on which way it starts off)
