Engine running away

I just purchased my first quad, a 2005 blaster, has a full pro circuit exhaust on it, besides that completely stock. I'm having a bit of an issue and was wondering what I should do about it. When I'm riding and get into higher revs then engage the clutch the engine will just run away and the only way to stop it is hitting the kill. I'm assuming it's the float getting stuck in the carb. It might be the throttle but the throttle snaps back and has no delay so I'm pretty convinced it's the carb. But I can't seem to get the damn throttle body off the carb no matter how hard I wrench on it. Must have had an air leak before hand or something because it seems to be lock-tighted on there. I need to get the carb free so if yall could start by helping me there that would be awesome. I'm extremely raw too all of this and any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to go riding with some buddies this weekend and would love to get this sorted out before then.

Couple things.....

Float getting stuck will not effect how much its idling. That will just effect how much gas is going into the carb from the tank. If the floats were stuck, you would see gas overflowing from the bowl out of hoses.

The only thing that an air leak will seize is the piston due to getting too hot, running it lean and not having enough oil in the gas to lube the piston.... All of this will happen eventually from an an air leak.

I believe your problem is an air leak. When you have a run away idle like this, instead of the spark plug pulsing, its basically a fireball. And the only way to kill it like you said is hit the shut off, or shift up a couple gears and dump the clutch.

Have you personally leak tested the motor? Have you checked reeds? Have you cleaned the carb? What oil are you using to mix gas? Pre-mix or oil injection? If pre mix what ratio? What spark plug are you using? Have you removed the carb from the bike or just trying to work on it with it still installed? Pics help, please post pics of the carb.

If you want to go riding this weekend, dont turn the bike on again. With it revving out of control like that, the possibility of the skirt snagging a port goes through the roof and shatters into your motor causing a cheap fix into a complete motor rebuild. Go build a leak tester from home depot, wont cost you more that 20/30 bucks. There are guides in the DIY section.

Chances of riding this weekend are slim.
As explained, an air leak can be catastrophic failure..
If you're lucky it may be only a intake leak. Some use a gasket on one side and sealer on the other. Biggest thing is DON'T overtighten the bolts. That will warp the cage. Don't recall exact value, only like 7 inch pounds.

Seriously consider doing crank seals now or in the near future as PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE. Nothing lasts forever.

5.8ft lbs, any more can warp the cage.
