Engine Chroming doubt

You ever see chrome pipes on a harley? They turn purple and discolor from heat. It might not stay all chrome after awhile. I dont know how much hotter it would get probably some. Ive seen motorcycle engines with the case and head chromed. I think it would be better to polish, would probably shine better in the longrun and easier to get back the shine.

Just like computer heatsinks, they are bare metal for heat transfer. The reason The engine came black is because its supposed to transfer heat better than other colors. Most engines are bare aluminum.

Chroming will not be good.It will hold in the heat more.Same with powder coating. If you really want it to shine you can try polishing it.But you better have alot of time on your hands.

nah, if you polish it you can prob just take the pressure washer to it after every ride and it'll look just fine.
plus it's aluminum so it won't rust.
you won't have to hand polish it after every ride.
in fact, chrome would be MUCH harder to keep clean than polished aluminum! i have a sh*t-ton of chrome on my street bike and that sh*t's a pain in the ass to keep shiny. even water leaves residue on chrome that you have to hand polish. i've polished a buncha aluminum parts too and those are def easier to keep clean than the chrome. plus if you do a good job (w/ all the right sanding and using the right compounds) the polished will look just like chrome. you can see that my aluminum fork sliders look just like the chrome forks......
