Alright. So I should be gettin my new top end in pretty soon. Now where I live, I can do the heat cycles, and all that, but I can't run around. In other words, I can't run like 1-2 tanks of fuel through. The only place where I would be able to do it is at my grandfathers, and hes leaving for Africa for a hunting trip in like a week. So I can't go to the house where all the trails are.

What should I do? Should I do more heat cycles then just 3, or should I bring it to a track for practice and do the break in there? And tune the carb? Or what??? Idk Wht to do lol

I did 6 heat cycles before I actually rode it. Basically, I did heat cycles until I went through a tank of gas. Then on the first ride and on a fresh full tank of gas, I took it kinda slow and didn't rev it too hard.

Really you can do as many heat cycles as you want. Eventually the engine will be broken in enough to where heat cycles will be pointless. After probably 4, the engine is pretty much broken in and the gaskets have seated properly.

Also, don't forget to re-torque all of the cylinder base nuts, head nuts, and make sure you have NO leaks.

When you say re torque I hope you dont have to torque all your bolts to a certain spec, because I just tightened mine by hand as best as I could...

Yeah they have to be to a certain spec. If I recall correctly, cylinder base nuts are 18 ft. lbs. and cylinder head nuts are 20 ft. lbs.

My opinion, anymore than two heat cycles, and its a waste not gonna hurt anything, but I dont really think that two or three or five 8-15 minutes cycles are gonna break in the rings, last longer maybe? I also dont think being too easy on first tank is good either. I wouldnt not do -Wot runs- but I dont baby it either.

So what happens if there not torques right? Like I just torque them down to whatever

i think u can barrow a torque wrench from autozone with the rent a tool program u pay for it up front get ur money back when ur done thats how i got my compression checked

You could strip them, bust a stud, or air leak and blow that top end up!

yup an a torque wrench is easy to use with slicks chart you can make sure all your bolts are back on the bike proper in like 20-30 minutes from top to bottom probly lol

It is important that each fastener be tensioned to the correct setting.

Over tightening of one of the head bolts can cause warpage, which in turn can allow gases out from under the gasket.

Over tightening or uneven tightening of the jug bolts can cause a lug to crack off, especially if using a composite paper gasket.

Expansion and contraction must too be thought about as it places strain on fasteners.

It is simply not good enough to tighten them by hand, it is a recipie for disaster.

HEy slick when i get my head modded an my cylender ported do have to do any of these heat cycles idk what they are... an I might even get it bored then i defintally do right?
