EHS airbox lid? Anyone ever used this?

While surfing ebay, I ran across this airbox lid kit. I wouldn't mind doing something like this to mine... but $55 + shipping seems a little steep imho. You can get the assembled ones for 80 + ship but thats even worse. Not to mention if you want a different color, or the block off plug thats even more. I'm thinking about doing just the K&N pre filter from outerwears for $17 but wondered if anyone has feedback on this product or if there is a lid that is more price competitive.

A lot really we haven't ran into many situations that people with their quads jetted properly needed to re-jet to use our cover

Just with that statement right there I would not buy one. Also to be honest that is a stupid price for something you can do in your garage. Basically it is an outwears on a OEM lid with a strip on the outside to hold it tight agains the lid (you could use thick plastic from something, or like 3/16-1/8 inch sheet metal and some bolts) and cut the back side out.

True. I just jetted the carb while I put the tors delete kit for stage 2 so now I have to run without a lid. Was hoping someone knew of something cheaper. And I agree with what you said. It is a stupid price. I wouldn't mind fabbing up something so I will look into it a little more.
 
Ya, just go out and buy a outerwear, and some thinnish sheet metal and make a ring that fits around the outside of the lid, make sure you can still get the lid on. and drill the holes to bolt the ring down. Also have heard of some people using nylons in stead of the outerwears, couple people on here do, helps for the bigger stuff.
 
Well this morning after discussing with my younger bro to make sure he was cool with it.... I decided to take on the challenge and make my own custom lid. Went down to lowes and picked up a small sheet of aluminum, some bolts, washer, and nylock nuts etc. Also picked up a rubber cap to close off the stock inlet. Oh, and a bottle of rubber cement. I already had a used outerwear in the basement so I cut that up. (was ment for tube style filter). That pretty much takes care of the parts... so... yeah so lets get the pictures rolling shall we.

Here are all the parts I got.

Here is a piece of card board I cut to get the size I wanted, and the outerware cut up and laid over top (just to make sure it would work lol.)

Here is the plate I ended up cutting out, and checking the placement for bolts to see what looks good.

Some rubber cement around the fresh edges to reduce fraying, as well as helping to seal between the plastic and metal. One coat on both sides around the edges.

Didn't turn out half bad... Sure isn't perfect by any means but it looks like she will do the job.

Thanks man, I appreciate it! I needed something to do to tide me over until we start re-assembling the motor tonight. This did the trick :) I'll probably have engine assembly pic's up tonight too in my other thread.
 
See aren't you glad you asked on here, and how much did we save you (cost of the thing you where gonna buy - the cost of materials you have in this thing) It looks really good and a lot neater than just a plain outerwears IMHO.

Lol so tell me how much you saved me. :P My bill at Lowes was $40 by itself. If I didn't have the pre filter, that would have been what at least 15. By that time I could have bought the kit that was cnc'd perfect, and a new prefilter cut to the right size.. etc. Trust me, I am extremely happy with how it turned out. I did sink a good portion of my day into this... but if you don't have any of the materials laying around it is pretty hard to beat the ebay price. I thought it was steep earlier but looking back it isn't that bad.

I also got some cut off disc's for the dremel which were a little costly, but I still needed them for the project. I needed something to cut that metal with. I also wasn't expecting the aluminum to be that expensive. at the scrap yard it is worth $0.45 / lb ... and is inflated to $9.32 for a 6"x18" section lol.

Aluminum sheet was $9.32
Cement was $5.14
Washers were $2.04
Cap was $2.92
Nylock nuts $1.32
Hex Bolts $1.20
cutting disks $14.97

Add in tax and the total comes to $39.13

The price was going to be worse because I was going to go with stainless bolts, but settled for the regulars.
