E85??

Has anybody ever tried running e85 through there blaster??

E85 has an octane rating of around 103 or so (not exactly sure) but i was wondering if there was any downfalls from using it. I can't think of any so i'm turning to you guys

I was thinking of running it cuz back home i can get it for $2.00 a gallon so its a lot cheaper then running 110 or even a mix of 110 and 93, the only thing i can think of as a downfall is that it uses more to run fuel to run E85 but if its that cheap it really doesn't matter.

I know in gasoline cars it tends to eat seals away, but in a blaster i can't think of anything that it could eat away at maybe the inlet line to the carb??

what are your thoughts??

yea you can run it and your correct the octane rating is about 103, but unless you have to run race gas E85 wouldnt be worth it. the few downfalls i know of are like you said it WILL eat your fuel line, and any o rings in your carb and any other rubber components in the fuel system. second since E85 has alcohol in it, it tends to absorb water which will eat your carb away so after every use you would have to drain the carb and run gas through it to purge the engine. other then that it works great if you dont feel like payin aton for race gas

There is much more to it. Your jetting would be similar to methanol. Aprox 9 jet sizes larger and you would run thru a tank of it in no time so the cost is really offset. However I mix the stuff 20% to 30% with premium gas in my Blaster and Banshee and have found it to be an EXCELENT tuning tool and octane boost. At 20% you will get about a 2 point boost in octane and the Shee seems to run about 1 jet size leaner. Just make sure your premix oil is compatible.

i bet e85 is a much cleaner fuel....our pumpgas here has so much sediment, dirt and other sh*t in it....makes all our carbs leaky.....messes up the needle to seat and makes the floats stick....

I know it burns a lot cleaner. I was bored one day and took 2 pyrex jars and put an 1/8 cup of E85 in one and unleaded gas in the other and lit them.
The gas burned with some nasty sootey smoke and the E85 had allmost no smoke at all.

e85 is 85% ethanol... you set up an e85 machine like a methanol running machine.. E85 is alky... corn alky to be exact... the other 15% is gasoline.. you'll also have to purge after you ride it with gasoline to keep the bottom end from rusting up.. it;s just a cheaper grade of alky.. and not as good as stright up meth either.. being that it has the 15% gasoline in it.. i have heard of some fast e85 quads running in michigan but i have never seen one personally..

How would you build a Blaster motor for 110 octane? Just asking cause on a 4 stroke with proper jetting and timing 110 octant fuel would only be beneficial on a motor with 13:1 compression or nitrous. I don't know. How much compression can a Blasters head gasket hold? Can an air cooled motor take the heat of 13:1 compression? Just thinking out loud.

As for running E85 in a Blaster, The drag guys do it all the time. E85 is very similar to methanol with a little less BTU's I'm doing the Holley carb conversion this spring on my 11 second street tire full size chevy sport truck. We did this conversion on a friend's 650 horsepower Camaro last summer and it made 20 more horse power on the dyno over the 100LL he was running. Yea it uses twice as much fuel but at $2.14 a gallon who cares. E85 is good stuff if you can stand the smell. It is also way less toxic then meth. Have you ever spilled methanol on your hands?
