In my defense, let me say that this is my first ATV....lol. But I should know better, because I work on my streetbike.

I just changed the oil in my 91 blasty, I was so glad to do this, the crap that came out was so nasty black, I thought I did a good thing, but after riding today, and reading the forum tonight, im not sure.

I changed the transmission oil and used Castrol HYPOY-C gear oil SAE 80w-90. it says "for motorcycles, ATV's and scooters transmissions" but it does not say clutch safe.:o

I rode today and the motor ran strong as always, but no torque to the wheels, it would go, but only at low rpm's. at high revs, it wouldnt have any power.

After reading I think I might have used the wrong oil and ruined my clutch plates. I plan on having a friend help me change them, but what else do i need to do?

Is this the wrong oil? What is a good oil I can get from pep-boys?

thanks.

on the right side of the motor, there is a little wing nut looking plastic oil cap, add oil there.

thanks guys, i read on here someone did the same thing (used the wrong oil) then said he had to disassemble the bottom end, remove the clutch plates, clean everything with brake cleaner, and reassemble. i was kinda scared and excited about my first rebuild.lol.

do i NEED to rebuild the bottom end?

thanks.

You shouldn't have to rebuild anything, if at most you may need to take the clutch plates out and scuff up the metal plates with some high grit sand paper to get any glazing off of them
