Degree key?

alota ppl think that the flywheel key holds the flywheel in place but thats untrue, its just a clocking device and the proper torque of the flywheel nut and taper of the crank/flywheel is what holds the flywheel on. with that being said ive noticed most but not all of the degree keys that have been sheared off are in the first 15mins on installing them...installing incorrectly. ive ran the +7 degree key in a banshee with over 100hp on asphalt and the key holds up just fine(the 7 degree being the most likely to shear off because of the larger step in the key).i also use pvl ignitions and they dont use keyways at all. timing plate or keyway your getting the same thing. i like the plate a little more because you can change the amount of timing with in a few minutes.

great explaination HP. that's why you need a puller to get the flywheel off, its a press fit. +rep for you

also forgot the degree keys are pretty big in the snowmobile industry, lotta hp there as well. thanks brandoz
