Ok.. I got the word back from the wife... I have decided to take on the fun task of building a quad from frame up with my boys. Well I thought I was set on doing a shee, but one of the boys threw the 250r idea out there...

I would love to hear input from you folks as to the good/ bad/otherwise of each build, the potential for each, and which do you think would be more fun.

The type of riding we would be doing would be dunes of course, but thrown in some potential trail riding, and some general screwing around.

I am looking for input on parts availability, costs, fun factor, and general goods and bads.

I know that each has their place, and I probably am too vague about what it would be mostly used on, but that is really undecided at this time... If we were to build a shee it would be more of a dune toy, and if it were a 250r it would be set up for a little of both... Either way I am certain it is going to be a blast to build, and to play with after !

i say you do up a shee. the parts are endless and you can make some huge power outta them. dont trail ride it. make it a stright duner. that would be awsome. then you could ride your yfz on trails.

I say banshee. A banshee is really easy to beef up when it comes to the engine and with a 250r you would have to spend ALOT of $$$ to build from the ground up because 250r parts are way over priced.

shee's are twice the price doing anything to the motor...the front suspension is easy, the rear suspension pretty much sucks no matter what you do, unless you go extreme like Dean did.

Thats what I was thinking as well... I wanted to send the head/cylinder out for for work... Shee would dbl the price of that.

my vote is honda trx250r... lonestar still makes alot of goods for them, and you can buy a frame from them, some people say there a born racer and some people dont care for thm on trails BUT i know plenty of guys that ride them.. and we all know there fast as hell right outta the box!!
they handle awsome and make very very very good power to begine with.. if you wanted a even sicker 250s.. do the motor as a cr250 dirt bike motor, liquid cooler power valve!! get the jugg ported good pipe good carb and reeds and your lookin at 55-60 hp.. and with the cr250 it would be cheaper for motor parts being they made the irt bikes for ever...

I would stick to the blaster. It's cheap, easy to work on, parts are everywhere, and it not to big for the kids. Yea, don't forget it's for the kids, otherwise, I would go with the shee.

Even thinking of the kids I would go with a shee. If you tune it well and with a couple of mod's you can cut down on alot of the powerbands and make it a strong machine all the way through to rpm's. I'm not sure how old you'r kids are but they can always grow into the shee...my husband has one and my girls like his much more than my blaster. The rebuild when he did it wasn't all that bad compared to some others we have done. It's a very fun machine and with ours it has been alot of tuning to get it to the point of beating out ported shee's. Would be a great way to teach them the ins and outs of getting the tuning right. As far as the trails vs. dunes it does both with no problem at all just change the rear tires out.

well i guess ill throw my 2 cents out there..
both great bikes for a build
the 250R imo will be worth more once complete they are alot harder to come by then a shee..
a shee is just flat out a sweet quad parts are all over and they are all over.
id do the 250R just cause you dont see all that many of them anymore..

i say you do up a shee. the parts are endless and you can make some huge power outta them. dont trail ride it. make it a stright duner. that would be awsome. then you could ride your yfz on trails.

yeah then right after u go to ride it blows up right ??? Do a 250r those quads are so fricken fast and htye are sound sick

I would go with a 250r. I noticed you lived in mid Michigan and I noticed you like to ride on dunes and trails. Well where I ride in Paradise MI way up by White fish point they have a lot I mean a lot of sand and its trails, they also have the hills with sand nothing like test hill or anything like that but its pretty fun. Its sandy but not sandy enough to need paddles, its got mud specific quad trail you just got to find them. I thought I would just throw it out there for some place else to ride for you guys, and hect if you ever go up there you might meat me and my family. We go up probably 20 times in the spring through the fall.

Wow lots of great input ! ! I appreciate that... My kids are both teens who ride my 450 very well, and the shee power would not be an issue so much... Given all the input I have recieved so far its looking like i may need to build both ! ! hahaI:I
