Crank Q

I still have my top end apart...house issues, ahhh!! Anyways, the rod bearings feel good and there isn't any excessive play on the rod or the crank, etc. One thing I did notice though is that on the two crank halves right where the rod connects them, the metal is dis-colored a bit, a bit more blue than shiny metallic. Is this alright or should I have a new rod bearing pressed in??

you mean the cylinder that is pressed into the crank that holds the rod? mine is the same way. looks like heat marks, it was that way the first time i tore it apart and is still that way. idk if maybe i or the previous owner premixed a little too lean once and it got too hot or what, but my rod bearing is still fine, it's been like that for probably 2 years.

new cranks will come with the same discoloration. I think the crank must be heated to press it together.

Sweet! Thanx for the responses guys. I just wasn't sure if it was normal or not. Like I said, the bearing on there seems just fine and there is no excessive play. I know the machine was run lean and hard in the past, but with the stock injection system....maybe it kept it from doing damage?? The stock cylinder and piston were in almost brand new, never been run, shape. And I know the thing was beat on hard, run with FMF pipe and silencer, no airbox cover, and no re-jetting.
