Has anyone ever repaired a cracked case by tig welding it? I know my left side case is cracked and leaking oil onto the stator and flywheel. I really can't afford a new or even a used case. Thought I might try to weld it instead. I believe the crack (or cracks) came from a chain breaking on a previous owner of the quad. I have replaced all seals except the one on the shift lever. Can't think of anything else it could be but a cracked case. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

ive seen jb weld hold forever with the proper cleaning beforehand, if you are good at welding aluminum that would be a better route.

how would it leak on the fly wheel and stator if the chain hit it broke theres no oil where the chain is?sounds more to me like a bad crank seal

I'm with Noober and have used JB weld on my 400 from chain damage.
The stuff works.
I like the flex steel type because it less messy and is the consistency of putty so it esy to work with.
Sand the area down to bare aluminum before you use it.
Remember if it's applied over paint, dirt, or oil, then thats whats holding it.

I thought it would be the crank seal, too. I replaced it today and it still leaks. I think I am going to crack the cases Monday and see what it looks like.
