Well I got my 38T sprocket and ZPS 400EX shock installed recently, and am happy with the results. It definitely rides much better, but I would still like a little higher gearing.

Next up is some front shocks, then hopefully some motor work over the fall/winter...

If you just fitted a rear sprocket without replacing the front and the chain, you are very soon going to have to replace all.

An old chain will quickly wear out a new sprocket, and stretch more to accommade it.:(

Just think what the back sprocket will try to do, it now has a chain which does not ride well, so it tries to manipulate it to suit.:o

The worn front sprocket now fights with the manulipated chain, trying to make it fit itself!

Then the chain hits the rear again, and the whole process starts over.:o

The chain and sprockets take excessive punisment, resulting in premature wear and maybe breakage.

The chain and sprockets will not know if they are Arthur or Martha, and the process of wear will go round and round in ever decreasing circles, until it eventually dissapears up its own butt.

If you intend doing it, invest in a case saver!

Golden rule, always replace all, never mix and match chains and sprockets. It is safer, and in the long run cheaper!

Buy a larger front sprocket and a chain to suit, and you will have 2 good sets.

I am well aware of the risks with not replacing everything. When I got my new rims/tires it was geared WAY too low. So I bought the cheapest 14T front sprocket and it was still geared too low, but I used it for the time I rode last summer. I then bought a very cheap 38T rear sprocket, and now it is much closer to where I want it to be. This is all with the stock chain that has well over 5K miles on it, probably closer to 10K. Now that I know that gearing I like I will buy quality parts when these wear out.
Doing it the "right" way I would have a lot more money tied up in it, and even more if I would need a new chain if I went with an extended swingarm in the future.

Thanks for the comment though, that is good infromation!

lookin good bro, you're gonna luv that shock !
and hate to jump on the bandwagon, but i see your out of chain adjustment now

Thanks the shock is much better, the rear end has "sag" now!

I agree the chain situation is less than ideal but it going to stick with it for the summer, then get quality parts over the winter, and possibly a +2 or +3 swinger.

out of chain adjustment wouldn't make it as much as i ride in a summer, maybe 2-3 rides max, and it's ready for another adjustment
just keep an eye on it, don't wanna be throwing a chain thru the cases

I don't want that to happen, can I take a link or two out of the stock chain? I have it as tight as it will go.

I don't ride a ton since the wheeler is 3 hours away from where I live, and I get less time off with my new job.
