compression quastion!!!!

should be man hell i wouldnt even put a piston in it if it was me. Just watch make sure if it dont go down etc. make sure jettings okay and no air leaks.

if i still drive it for three weeks till the piston comes could i damage the cylinder

No, perfect compression for a stock blaster is about 135 psi. That's brand new piston, new bore, perfectly seated rings. As things begin to wear, the compression naturally drops off over time. Nothing to be concerned about except to keep an eye on it and use that number as an indication that top end service will be needed soon.

If you plan on getting a new piston anyway, it won't HURT anything to change it out (provided it's done correctly) when your compression is down to 120 PSI. You could probably achieve the same results for a little less money by ordering a set of rings and gaskets and just having the cylinder honed lightly.

That's a "freshen up" and will generally get back some of that lost compression because the new rings have proper spring tension again and the glaze is knock down off the cylinder by the hone so the new rings can seat. The exception to the "freshen up" rule is if you have deep scratches in the cylinder wall after honing or if your cylinder to piston clearance isn't a tight fit. In those instances the lost compression isn't due to ring fatigue but from a problem which boring will be needed to solve.

At 120 pounds you are fine. You don't NEED a new piston kit, but when the compression drops to 110 or lower, pull the head and jug off and replace the gaskets along with piston rings. That should put your compression back up to around 130. And i'm not sure what kinds of stores you have over the in UK, but any local car parts store should have a compression tester.

Thomas Ralph. Put this item num in eBay 140587203224 or search petrol compression tester there not expensive

i would not even touch the top end if the compression was at 120lbs. waste of time and money. it could last another year or two for all you know before really needing to be tore down and rebuilt.

Sorry to invade the thread but does any 1 have a link for a compression tester to fit a blaster in the uk?
I want to buy 1 and try my engine! See what comp i have :D

I'm pretty shure any will work as long as it isint ment for a car cause those ones arent accurate cause they go higher....

my daughters blaster is around 105 & she been bouncing aring on it two summers now - notice i am looking for a piston for it :)

late 80's and still std bore, its just time for a freshening up - its just a pig with low comp.

Sears sold a real nice setup with various plug adapters to screw into the head & seal, should u want to do a leakdown they are real good.
