I have an 02 Blaster and I think the carbs are flooded. It is having trouble starting and when I run it, it sounds like its stuttering even if I am at high speeds, if I stop it turns off(seems to only want to start in neutral). I want to clean my carbs out but I am not quite sure how to do it. I know someone that can do but it is a hassle to get in touch with him. Is there something I can look at that will give me step by step directions on how to clean the carbs or a video

down load the free blaster manual from here. it should give you step by step instructions. its really simple. buy some carb cleaner and just squirt it through all of the nucks ansd crannies inside the the carb

so I dont have to take it all apart?

Yes, you have to take it apart.

It isnt very hard. You remove the carb, you pull the bowl, you remove main and pilot jets, and you spray the hell out of it.

Also I doubt a dirty carb will make you run rich though. Usually if your carb was dirty, it would cause you to run lean because the jets would be clogged and not enough fuel would make it through there because not enough air would make it through the venturi ports to atomize the fuel.

I mean, its definately a good practice to clean your carb, especially if you dont know the last time it was done.

Keep an open mind about the source of your trouble though. Give the carb a shot, report back.

Remove it, diassemble it, clean it. Not real hard, just pay attention and lay out the parts on a rag as you take it apart. It's harder for them to get lost this way and then you know the order of assembly.

Can't beat this price for a rebuild kit. It's got all the parts that wear out. Most people don't bother with a kit but it's the best way.

If you really need a video, try youtube, there might be one.

i'm betting on your floats. was there any ever any jetting changes made to the bike?

Nothing was done to it... and I am almost positive the owner before me didnt do anything to the jets. I have actually been thinking about the problem and I remember the last time I rode it, my blaster wasnt smoking... I put a decent amount of mix in and nothing happened, so then I put some more thinking I didnt put enough mix in thats why it wasnt smoking, but my friend realized I didnt turn the gas nob to REV... I had it on OFF ( yea I know dumbass). I believe I may have put to much mix in. What should I do instead of cleaning the carbs out?

If anyone is thinking about doing a carb cleaning pretty soon, it would be nice if you could make a video or take step by step pictures to explain how to do it... I'm real good at f**cking sh*t up if I dont see how its done first, so I am just going to hold off on cleaning the carbs, because now that I'm thinking about it that might not be the problem... thanks for the ebay link, just bought a kit because I know I will attempt to clean out the carbs before winter hits anyways and I hate doing sh*t half ass like not buying new parts

If you think the gas/oil mix is wrong, you are going to have to drain the tank and dump it all. bummer. Personally, I would clean the carb anyway. Good insurance, and by the way scratch that earlier recommendation for the cheap carb kit. I just talked to a guy who got a cheapie off ebay and it sounds like the jets were sh*t. It would be ok tho as long as you kept your original jets and just replaced the soft parts and float needle.

And you should be mixing gas in a gas can, not your tank. It's not something to guesstimate.

Thats funny I just got that same comment about mixing outside the tank first... also there is not much gas in my tank left anyways so its ok because after I realized the nob was set to OFF and not REV it started smoking but a little bit only (like just barely) I ran it like that for a little and thats y I think the engine is stuttering, ran it with to much mix when I should of waited. It seems like it will only turn on in nuetral and if its on and I hit the trottle it just shuts off as if its not getting enough gas... I somehow got it to go but when I ran it even in high gears it feels like it wants to shut off and when I stop it just shuts off... I'm completely new to this so I am going to do what you said "drain it and mix outside of tank" there just might be too much mix in there... Any additional suggestion would be helpful, I really need it running right by sunday; just added a raptor to the family and we want to test it out in the woods this weekend

Ok, cool. Basically you should have a main gas can (5 gal) and a smaller can to mix oil and gas. I use a 2 gal for that, but a 1 gal is fine too. Fill it about 1/4 full, add the oil (4oz per gal for 32:1), shake to mix, and then fill the rest of the way with gas, shake again. If your mix is off, it throws off your jetting and it just isn't going to run right. This is a good start. Don't forget to at least drain the float bowl. Taking off the bowl and spraying things out with carb cleaner is even better.

Congrats on the rappy. I love mine. Sounds like you've been bitten by the bug, this hobby is very addictive.

Perfect I was just about to ask how to get the right mix (one step ahead)... drain floats? I have no idea what a float is or even where its located

As for the hobby comment, HELL YEA. I'm so addicted to the 4-wheeler hobby and so are all my friends, since I got mine my friends and I have gotten 2 blasters, a raptor, a cbr 250r, XR 80r (which just got stolen last week, only a week after buying it..PISSED!!!), and the BEAST YFZ 450 atv... my step-dad just bought a yzf-450 a couple months ago but we dont ride it (too big, not that skilled yet), but we couldnt resist a 09 yzf-450 for $1300 not stolen, what a deal

Something to consider, the stock oil injector mixes at 20:1, so they can actually run pretty rich. Your hard starting sounds like your reeds are not closing all the way. Usually you can just flip them over and they will lay flat again. Also usually if you have a dirty carb (usually a clogged main jet ) it will idle but when you punch the gas it will die. Anything is possible though. You should clean your carb and air filter as regular maintenance( I clean my filter every ride and my carb every few rides, and make sure you have a fuel filter, it will save you a ton of dirty carb problems (just found out the mother-in-laws bike does not have one). Welcome to the forum lots of good people and info here...NOW LETS SEE SOME PICS :P:D

Are you sure? Nobody sells an $8000 quad for $1300.

Drain the float bowl on your carb. On the bottom of it, next to the small tube, there is a screw. if you turn it to the left it will drain the fuel out of your carb.

Seriously tho. You need to read the manual and become familiar with the carb section. There are plenty of photos. Cleaning your carb is easy enough. Just take your time.

Drain your tank with it on RES, but don't ride that way, put it on ON. That way you got some more when you run out away form home/camp.

I just printed out the manual (at work, company money :)) I will be reading it before I attempt to do anything. After I get out of class I am going to attempt to clean the carbs out using the manual and do all other suggestions. Will give a status update either later today or tomorrow.

As for the yzf-450 its the dirt bike not the yfz-450 and I put the wrong year its an 07 not 09 but still for $1300 thats a steal in itself... The guy had been working with my step-dad for 13 years and he said it was taking up space in his garage no body was using it. My step-dad always comes around CRAZY ass deals, like 2 years ago he got a 03 GSX-R 600 for $2500 damn thing was brand new, until I dropped it

I will be taking pics this sunday of all the toys, should be lots of fun
