hey guys, my topend is gonna be back here pretty quick, hopefully this week. i'm mulling over my carb options now.

the topend is being ported by Ken Oconner and then i plan to run a Factory 7 pipe, VF3's, and my airbox lid off with K&N filter. i'm kind of winging this build by adding parts here and there. i really don't wanna buy a carb right now if i can help it. i just wanna ride it when i get it back together for the time being.

will the stock carb be okay? what size carb would be best for the setup when i'm ready to buy it? i'm thinking a Keihin 28mm or OKO 30mm would be okay.

yes you can run the stock carb just wont get the most out of the work your gana have done but when you do buy a new one id try a 30 to a 33

yeah, i figured the stocker wasn't optimal for it, but as long it'll work for now thats okay. so, a 30 to 33mm would be best? what brand? i like Keihin, but i read somewhere that the OKO are the same thing.

U can find 34mm pretty cheap less than 100 so u might as well go with it if u plan on doing more mods in the future, it will run like a champ with a 34 on it

I'd just bore out the stock carb if I was being cheap. I'd suggest 30-33mm personally, but wouldnt limit you from going with a 34mm pj cheap.

i'm not being cheap, but i'm building this as funds permit. obviously gotta take care of bills and other things first.

where can these be gotten? say with everything i need to hook it up.

The thing about OEM is the fit and fitment. Using your stock carb will ensure that it runs right the moment the first kick ignites the gas. You can always step up to a bigger carb after doing some research and talking more with Ken about his recommendations. See what Ken recommends for jetting as well.

If something goes wrong in the initial stages and youve followed EVERYTHING that he recommends, he's more likely to stand behind his work. If you start off changing to non OEM parts or accessories and failure occurs without consulting him first, who's fault will it be ?

Just better to be safe, have the most fun you can right away, break it in right, then build upon that. Do some research as well.

I would not recommend buying an atc 250r carb. if it's original its 26-27 years old. technology has change a lot in that time. Look for something from a 2000 or newer dirt bike, or just buy brand new.

Talk to Ken and see what he says. You trusted in him to build it and spent your hard earned money with him, accept only his advice.

got this cleared up guys. talked to ken about it and now i'm on the right path.

my 34pj, although tough to tune at first, rips sh*t up with my KOR motor/f7 pipe
but ken swears by the 34 mikuni's
