I was wondering what the correct procedure is for this ?

Because its not allowed to be washed in water? And I dont see how you are supposed to get a dusty dirty airfilter clean by putting oil on it? It will just stick and properly be a more mess?

Someone please?

GUIDE:

1. Take airfilter off?

2.

3.

4.

5.

for what kind of filter???

for the foam filters you just soak them in water and work the dirt out with your fingers....tehn you put oil on the collect the dirt...but dont over oil

If your using a foam filter, get yourself some foam filter cleaner. It comes in a spray can. Take the filter off and spray it with the filter cleaner. Once you've covered the filter with the cleaner, work the filter with your hands to remove all the dirt, then take a garden hose and rinse it off. Let the filter dry completely then spray it with foam filter oil that also comes in a spray can. Make sure you cover the entire filter. Then just install the filter back in your airbox.
If you have a k&n filter the process is pretty much the same except that you'll need filter cleaner and oil for a k&n filter.

A foam filter is just that, foam. Something like a K&N is more of a pleated gauze. There are different oils for these two types, use the correct one.

possibly know what brand or even brand of oil used?

Use that brand's cleaner, and it will most likely come out sparkling.

If you have no idea, I'd suggest using no-toil oil and cleaner. It is by far the easiest to use. I'm sure there are exceptions, but it's really important to use the same cleaner as the oil. This will make your life much easier as the cleaner is formulated to work with that particular oil.

exactly...hard for me to explain havnt cleaned a foam filter in a long time haha

and how often would they it need to be cleaned and oiled if you werent racing?just general use like??i wouldnt think a lot with a 2 stroke but im not entierly sure..

i agree with bigblasterd, i use a good amount of dawn dishwashing liquid and really hot water at the basement sink, work it in good, to loosen the old oil and dirt, rinse it good, hang it on the line for a few hours to dry, and ya hav'ta use foam filter oil, wd-40 liable to melt it, just buy the oil, clean at least twice a month, more if dusty conditions

i have the uni filter that came with the kit and i just use dawn and hot water to wash it and a little 10-30 to oil it

I have a foam filter and i just soak it in mineral spirits and it comes right out its about the easiest way.

I just searched and found a toomey red air filter and it was a foam one. So yeah, use dawn and water to clean the thing off, and then let it dry.

I currently use a 'special' air filter oil for my foam air filters. I used to just use whatever type of oil was laying around the garage, 10W-30 does the trick just fine. Any type of oil works, but the higher the viscosity, the better, so it will stay on the filter the longest, which is why WD40 is not a good idea. The 'special' filter oil is just high viscosity oil that sticks to the filter really well. You could probably use 2stroke oil on the filter....but that would be expensive!! I've used bar and chain oil....which is probably closer to the "special" oil than most other types.

I usually put the clean filter in a big zip lock, pour some oil on it, and work it into the filter...so I don't have to get my hands as dirty!! Try and get it as even as possible. Then let it sit for a little while to even out on it's own. I keep the filter in a bag until I need to use it.....ideally I always have a cleaned, oiled filter in a bag...but I'm lazy.
