so as i trouble shoot this tapping sound im thinking more and more that my vitos 3mm crank is hitting the case. if i find evidence of this when i take it back apart can i just take a little off the case with a dremel to keep it from hitting or will that cause other problems?

One of the builders could definietly answer this, I just had one put in by Ken. Hopefully he'll be on soon to answer!

i think it should be ok as long as you dont get any of the aluminum dust in any bearings and you take caution in not taking any material off the mating surfaces of the case halves.

well i dont know for sure ,but, if you are gonna go ahead with it make sure to tape off everywheres you are not grinding. or keep a shop vac going in the same area as the grinding, if you get any of that in a bearing or anywheres really you could fubar some sh*t.BE CAREFUL

did you install the crank?I know some of the vitos cranks when they first started making them were all NOT bolt in and go,a few i did needed to have the cases cut because the rod big end was not cut down enough.

If you think its hitting just pull your cylinder off and check to make sure the crank is turning free and not rubbing, that way your just out a base gasket

heres a pic of where i had to grind the case
