im kinda on a budget, so i wasn't looking to do a complete rebuild, and was thinking i can just get a new piston and rings and send the jug off to get honed or possibly bored.... thanks for any suggestions...

that is what i'd be doing.....................
sending it to ken oconnor for a bore/hone/new piston

Alot of times physical damage can't be honed out and still be acceptable but I wish you luck!
You need to figure out why that happened.

well unfortunately i had been running it with an airleak coming from the where the intake manifold and reed cage meet the cylinder, but had fixed it a few months ago.... i remember before i had fixed it i had instances where the rpms would hang unless i let off the clutch to calm it down... probably got the rings hot a few times and they were just weak, i dunno... the damage is on the exhaust port side.... my jetting was a 280 32.5 and 3rd clip i think...
