broken piston

You can but why? Pull this one apart if for nothing than a learning experience. If the case is cracked you can get another and have the experience of building it. If its cracked and you don't want to get all involved the you should buy another possibly..

Ok thanks......would it not be Better to buy another running engine?

not really, if you find one cheap, it's most likely well worn.
why buy someone elses problems ?
if you plan to keep this, a full rebuild will give you smiles for miles :)

the cost depends on how much you can do yourself ?
all the info and help is on here to do it yourself.

yes they would leak. Depending on where the crack was it would either leak air or trans fliud or both.. you most likely wouldn't see a leak. You could tell with a leak tester though.

(I just leak tested my comp and got error code 902) lol << Inside joke disregard..

Also if the cases was cracked wouldn't they leak?

they could have been leaking....air or trans fluid into the crank area/cylinder.
you can't see that, only a leakdown test will show that, but you already tore the top end of.

Yeah your right i would like to learn this 2 stroke deal a little better And just fix it if its not that bad.....i was just saying buy another motor to ride now and build this one later

I'm new to this so this might be a stupid thing to ask but it's there differences between the oil for the trans and for the engine?bc when it ran it would smell like gear oil and i didn't understand why i thought they just mixed out fuel wrong

you could do that, but I wouldn't go spending $4-500 on another used engine, that'll get you a good bit of the way to a full rebuild.

learning this engine..........

we all started right where you are now, so there is no stupid questions, or...we've all asked them before :)

yes to your question, the trans oil (10w-30 or ATF) is just to lube the trans and clutch, captured in the transmission and clutch cover areas of the bottom end,
if you smelled it burning, the cases may be cracked between crank and trans areas, or the clutch side crank seal is bad.
the crankcase/cylinder/piston is lubricated by 2 stroke oil, injected by the stock oil injection system or the oil mixed into the gas. < were you doing one of those 2 ?????

your best route now is to tear that bottom end apart to inspect for damage.

I bought it just like this, the oil injection is been deleted he told me he just mixed the gas....I'm starting to think i bought a pos.....

What did you pay? Also don't stress man. You are in the right place. With a lil time and patience and a few bucks you will have her running better than ever.

^^^ great advice from masters. we will all help you get this running top notch, all you have to do is ask questions, listen to advice, and do the work

Only two ways you should buy a used engine. 1. A member here who would not like negative rep and others would vouch for. 2. One local you can hear run, do a comp test AND pull exhaust to inspect piston and cylinder.
Plus as mentioned, you will still have more into it than you can do a good or complete rebuild for.

Price I gave was off top of head, and is darn close. This the shop I have used for nearly 20 yrs: http://www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-YFS2...Parts_Accessories&hash=item4ae4feae19&vxp=mtr

Get a Clymers repair manual, one of these to split cases:http://www.harborfreight.com/bolt-type-wheel-puller-set-69889.html has right thread and length bolts in kit. Looking at pic of bottom of piston, it has hammered something so guarenteed there are tiny fragments in there.

Between Clymers, youtube, and here these engines are a walk in the park.

I would like to get another one to get it running faster and i believe ill need ceases anyway do even if the motor needs rebuilding i can still use the parts from it

$300 isn't bad. Even with a different motor though you will will certainly need to leak test and atleast give a look into the exhaust to get a look at the piston and even through the intake side would be good. Do a compression test as well. Last thing you want is to run into the same problem.
