The bottom exhaust side of the piston is broken off and there are little pieces of alluminum floating all through out the rest of the engine. The cylindar made it out with out any scratches. But im gonna need a new piston. Im not sure what size to by with out haven to replace the sleeve. Any One Got Any Advice?

sounds like you need to take it to a reputable shop have it checked , your going to need to split your cases and clear out any debris or it may happen again ,the service life has been extended too long like phragle said ...id imagine your probably going to need a bore job and other things

Well iv already got the engine off the bike. So you think i oughta open it up and clean it real well? What size and type of piston would you suggest buyin? Cuz i dont wanna buy one and it not fit or whatever.

well i mean on top of the piston there are sometime markings like part number and size what your looking for on top of it is a mark like 0.25,0.50 or something like that. this will give you some idea if it has been bored before or if you cant bore it any more. but like flotek said take it to like a power sports dealer or engine builder they can find the bore of the cylinder for you.

ok got ya. you think i oughta just take the piston and the "jug" there? i dont really havva lotta cash to work with. Also since im gonna have it all apart, think theres anything else i might consider replacing or inspecting?

yea that would be your best bet i dont think they will charge you anything to do it they didnt charge me anything to check the bore on mine. well if you split the case to clean all the bits out i would say check your crank for play, check the trans, look at all the gears and bearings make sure that none of the gears are chipped or cracked. when i had my engine apart i also replaced all the seals but if you dont want to replace them all then just check that there ok.

i dont think so like some one said before the main reason it broke was because it was old and worn. either way if you did find it before it broke you still have to pull the top end to replace the piston and if your going to go that far you might as well just get it bored and honed.
