hey its been a while since ive posted and alot has happened, ive totalled an 07 subaru which was my moms, and bought myself a 96 s10 vortec v6, i was wondering if anyone had any useful info or tips about these s10s, theyre great little trucks. mines an ext cab, 4x4, regular length bed, ik it needs a blower motor, an oil pump, and its got tons of drivers side body rot but i have an s10 for parts so most of this stuff isnt going to cost me anything. any tips/tricks/tidbits of valuable info would be greatly appreciated

the s10, the vortec motor, and the poor subaru =/

i hope you got it cheap. otherwise run, take it back, burn it, push it off a cliff, etc....

ouch bet mommy whopped ur ass lol ..as for the s10 just look for the typical GM issues.. steering boxes(on the 3rd one right now in my canyon), balljoints, chevy lean, blah be de blah.. ya know

lol 900 bucks and nah its not that bad what ik it needs so far is, blower motor, oil pump, exhaust strap, gas tank strap, and it has a slight exhaust leak and most of these parts can come off of my parts s10

and yeah my mom wasnt happy, god i miss that outback, and how can i tell if the steering box is bad, and whats chevy lean? it doesnt pull to one side or the other if thats what you mean but idk what the steering box is

chevy lean is when the whole truck's body leans to the drivers side...pretty common. as for the steering box/power steering the will make noise and leak fluid when they start going bad,,,mine locked up at full tilt once :o .. also keep an eye on the charging system, these delco alternators like to die prematurely

thanks, and how are the 5 cyls on power? i never thought gm would use an odd number of cyl's but with gas the way it is i guess i was wrong. im wondering if its comparable to the v6 i got bec ik mine even with the dieing oil pump has roughly the same feel when u hit it as my fathers 95 cheyenne 1500 with a 350, which is currently getting a new tranny, but anyway i gotta go now ill check the post again l8r, cya and good luck with ur canyon as well

the power is on the mild side, i think a large 4cyl would produce more power and be more economical... i have very poor mileage despite this truck being chevy's attempt at a hybrid truck.. my old man has the new f150 with the 5.0 and he has the same mileage i got if not better

aww =[, lol i thought the 5 was kinda pointless, less power than a 6, more gas than a 4, imo, the vortec 4.3l v6 is the perfect small truck motor, its a 350, just without the extra 2 cylinders, and idk about mileage bec my trucks not registered/insured yet but my brother had a 94 s10 standard cab/bed, 2wd, non-vortec v6 and it got way better mileage than a 350, and some of the new fords are nice but im strictly against fords, honestly the new toyota trucks are probably the best on the market, well the tacoma atleast, the fullsize chevys can come with a 6.2l v8 with 4 cylinder shutoff when your cruising so id want one of those for a full size or a tacoma for a small truck
