boost bottle

A bootle is useless and is just for looks. I remember awhile back there was a dyno chart on bansheehq. The banshee made more power without the boost bottle compared to just having the crossover tube.

Some one explained it well in a post, gotta find it. He said a boost bottle will work but you have to dial it in. He said it's like blowing air over a beer bottle, when it hums you have found the harmonics for that exact bottle. A boost bottle works the same way but you have to change the size of the bottle many times until you find the engines harmonics. I'm not sure what that harmonics is but when you find it it's supposed to increase performance somehow.

Boost bottles do work, but they work on a pressure wave system. imagine you blow air over the top of ur beer bottle, and it hums.. this humming frequency is the frequency at which a boost bottle of that geometry will provide boost. Generally, bigger bottle for low revs, and smaller bottles for high revs. the bottles also boost at the harmonics of the fundamental frequency, so if u tune a bottle right, it will give u a bit of a hit in the low end, and a bit of a hit up in the higher revs. you should make one out of copper tube, and adjust the size till u get what you want out of it, then get someone to make it out of lightweight aluminium for you.. This is a great way of avoiding the calculations for the bottle and its harmonics.

the only boost bottle i use n2o!!!!!!!

lolol You can use that bottle in your living room with a trash bag and go faster then using a redgular boost bottle on your blaster

more or less what we're getting at is that with all the time and effort it'll take to create and tune a working boost bottle you could do something else that will help more. like put in good reeds or get a used pipe

You could probably port your motor and replace every single part in it with the amount of time it would take to create a boost bottle that isn't junk.

I agree, I'm not going through the trouble of building one but the question was'nt if it was time consuming. The question was what is it and does it add performance. We exlpained what it was and YES it does add performance. It might be a small amount and very time consuming to get there but that was'nt the question. It could be basically free to do and If I was bored one day I would maybe mess around with it, it's not gonna hurt anything.

a boost bottle on a blaster is WORTHLESS, it does nothing but look nice. but one cool side effect is that the hole you have to put in your intake for it tends to dryrot and crack after a while giving you a nice yummy airleak.. :o

Actually, that was me that wrote that boost bottle explanation..

It does work, and it dosent take that long if you know what your doing. There are a few books on it, you could spend a few hours, make ur mind up on the design, and then make it. There are books on it out there. Lots. Search pressure wave tuning..

Its the same reason a performance manifold on a 4 stroke may produce more power, not because it "flows better" but because the tuned length of the pipe matches the speeds that the cams will boost as well. some do flow better than stock, but different companies have different tuned lengths they come up with and some match YOUR engine better than others. OK, it may not do too much, but it will do some.. and if a boost bottle isnt tuned for your engine (porting) then it may well have a negative effect!

hope im not stepping on anyones toes..

why would you be stepping on anyones toes? everyone has thier own opinions. if you were to make this boost bottle that actually works do you belive the benifits of it would outweigh the risk of airleaks?

it depends whether you seal it with a zip-tie or a spring clamp.. and how well its supported.. if a bottle wiggles around and pulls on the intake then its bound to rip at some point.. bolt the bottle to the frame, and it would last a while..

its really up to every rider and how they look after their engine. obviously the if it aint broke dont fix it way is very bad for an intake system on a blaster.. I do it..

I know my old room mate a tech used his boost bottle to create a pipe to hit some keif... I do not condone drug use or trying this, just something I observed in my 4 yrs at GT. Amazing what bored college freshmen will do.
End threadjack...
