to start im new to 2 strokes to the point of jetting and such and reeds. Im a mechanic and have all the tools to do anything besides specialty tools.

bought a rolling chassis and then got a motor with exhaust. completely stock motor for all i know with a dg exhaust(i know they suck but hey, better than stock and sounds great) i have put a uni filter on it without lid. ive had my little issues with things but it runs great and has held up the last few weeks toolin around.

when i was on my land on the initial run, it warmed up and the idle was waaaaaay high to the point everytime i was on the clutch it would rev very very high so i moved the screw to the point it idled ok. and then i called it a day when my master key broke on my chain right after that. then the next day me and a buddy went out and were draggin on a 70 yrd stretch(he had a 400 foreman) and he was whoopin my ass, and at that time i noticed that it would bog like a mother past about 1/4-1/2 throttle past 3rd gear. other than this it runs like a champ. Yesterday i was toolin round with a diff buddy that has a straight race blaster and of course he was feeding me dust but i told him to take it for a ride and he was thinking maybe plug, reeds or crap in the carb.

Tonight i took the carb and reeds out and the plug. The plug has definately been in the motor for a while and is a dark brown(gonna replace anyways), the reeds were a tit bit open but have been researching and its normal, but im getting some like new pro series carbon for $20 from my race bud tomorrow, and comes down to the carb. may i note there is residual oil on front and rear of motor.

I guess what im asking is could it be just crud in the carb and/or a jet issue. like i said i know basically nothing about jetting but have taken many many carbs apart like these but never had to switch carbs(small cycles to mopeds) about 3 times a day

Edit: also it cuts out if i turn all the way to the right at idle but is ok is on gas and/or moving

First thing I would advise you to do is to leak test.

For jetting if you ar running the K&N with no lid I would go up two jet sizes. If you are premixing. your gas and oil I would go up another. That would put you at a 260/270. Of course plug chopping to confirm is always recommended.

Yea I don't think my pm system is enabled on here yet so i cant message awk, my filter is a brand new uni and its still running everything stock. I'm gunna clean the carb once my son goes down for a nap and my buddy is dropping off the new reeds today

Ok thanks guys! I have a feeling when I set the idle down its too lean and is causing this issue, sounds like I might have a long Tuesday trying to get it figured out on my land

From what I read of your post your bog happened after that chain broke?

How did that chain break. If it fly's off while riding. You could have a crack in your case causing a air leak.

My chain did the exact same thing, I got lucky my Case has a little scratch and wear but it didn't crack it. Did you inspect the case after the chain flew off?

I'm not sure if it was like that before it broke or not, I think it did tho, wasn't paying attention to that on the initial trail run. I'm about to get into the carb, what clip should the jet be on?

If you did crack the case that must be fixed before anything else.

Can't tune a carb, or anything else with a air leak just going to be incorrect either way.

Take a picture of that crack and post it.

Clip on middle slot.

It might pay to inspect the chain and sprockets for wear.

If the chain breaks once, as sure as eggs are eggs, it is going to break again soon.

What happened with the chain is that the kid before me had it really tight and the bottom roller was missing and it actually wore into the roller mount and broke the master key clip and that's all she wrote, new chain now and the sprockets are good

Not wanting to dishearten you but new chain on old sprockets (no matter how good they look) is courting disaster.

Ah ok, maybe ill do something with the sprockets after I get it running good, chain is all sloppy on them but you are right, I might be racing ice ovals this winter with my buddy that's been doing it since ever

well put the new reeds in and put a fresh intake seal on er, new plug(b8es), and cleaned up the carb as much as i could before the huge can of cleaner ran out(damn thing was gone so fast), the main jet was a 230, is that big enough with my setup now?(uni no lid, stock motor, pro series carbon reeds) It seemed that it had gotten better round my yard but need to get er out in the open country and see how she goes
