Boggy off idle and can't pull high gears

i dont know if this will help you but to show you that engines are all the same ive got a 240bbk and before the damned case broke had a 280 in it with stock jet needle at the 2nd from top clip and it was still rich and thats with all the mods in my sig.

i spoke to vitos and ken oconnor and tried every jet in between all the way to 340 and im still not dialed in yet with the 280 its still rich for the life of me i cant see how but it is and the plug chops ive done confirm this.i was scared sh*tless going down that far and thought here we go my new BBK is going to blow but for some reason its still rich.

have you messed with your flywheel may have a key that sheared and move flywheel slightly. happened to me the weekend no power at the high gears.

The plug wire suggestion was to eliminate possibility of corrosion in end of wire. Have you tried EVERY suggestion that has been offered? If so using the process of elimination, swap coil, cdi, and stator with Derek. One at a time.

You may be onto something. Was just thinking snd we had similar problems with his old motor with it not pulling anything over 4th. So if its not jetting which we are checking first that leaves the stuff that didnt change when we changed the motor. That rules out the stator at least for now. But any other electrical and the carb werent changed with the motor so those things r a possibility. However we are in the process of getting like 5-8 inches of snow so this may be postponed awhile

yes but that 290 was when it was warmer out probley around 60-65 last time i ran it (til my head gasket went) mines vented your has no lid so there again you should be geting more flow and its colder when you jeted yours so in a way that shows what were talking about id try the 270 and do a plug chop

well we figured this out a few weeks ago it was the needle it was a clip too rich. idk how in the world the guy before him ran a 230 with fmf and no airbox lid but still moved the clip.. sigh... people

This is what I'm banking on. I've had the same problems as you guys. I have no air leaks yet have a high idle. 8-| Sometimes it idles high, others it doesn't...yet no air leaks, reeds are fine, and the thottle isn't stuck. The slide might be the issue but doesn't explain why it does it does it every now and then. I'm taking the exhaust off and resealing to make sure it's not leaking, then advancing my timing 4 degrees...maybe 5, tonight or tomorrow, so I'll check the flywheel key as well as I have the same "banshee bog" as you guys did right off of throttle. I have a richer taper Vito's needle so I am going to try out the 2nd slot and see how it goes then.

Jetting mains is a piece of cake. It's everything else that is a royal biotch.....or at least in my case with the Blaster. Jetted shees, 4 strokes, a few dirtbikes, and another Blaster and has no probs doing it, but mine is temperamental SOB. X( As a side note, you don't do plug chops at 1/4 or idle. There is no reason too because when you pull the plug, the "fuel ring" will be at the top of the porcelain....no reason to waste a plug when you can see it. Now if you do a 1/2 throttle chop it will be about halfway down the porcelain and a plug chop might be needed and the full throttle will need a chop as the fuel ring will be at the bottom of the porcelain and you can't see it unless you have an ottoscope.

Where did he have the clip at? Some people are just flat out retarded when it comes to jetting or anything in general. Out at one of the local trails, there was a kid on another piped Blaster that said he was faster than me because he had "more gas". I just busted up laughing and this was his face--->:-/ Some people. 8-|

Probably thought the needle was the main jet. Some people truly start from a "blank slate" with no guidance.

Yea I know but where was the clip at? The 4th slot down from the top and you moved it back to the 3rd from the top?

oh sry. im not positive the numbers. it was 1 below stock. we moved it to stock
