Not necessarily. If you want a SHINE that looks legit, then youll go down that low. I went to 2800 on my raptor clutch and stator cover and you couldnt see any marks, unless of course, if you have a huge buffer like 1bad442, then youll be good to go and wont have to go that low.
 
nothing you are workin on will rust it is all alluminum. good start bro. don't give up! and you want to work your way up with the sand paper. if you just make big jumps like from 240 to 1000 it will take forever.
 
thanks man , i appreciate that! ya i used 60 then 100 then 150 then 240 and ill buy some 500 and 800 (or take it from school lol)
 
Looks like a good start. As stated before, nothing on the motor will rust but the shifter and brake pedal will. You can go through water and mud also. When you get done riding, wash the quad and dry the polished parts. Then use some mothers on it and it'll bring the shine back
