i just bought a 97 blaster about 3 months ago , the guy i bought it from said that he just replaced crank and piston bored 0.60 over , and he put a DG pipe and silencer on it . It wasnt running when i bought it so i got it real cheap. I have a stock carb on it , and it was real dirty i took off and cleaned it . and i rebuilt the carb. I am getting gas to carb and i am getting fire (new plug). I also have compression. But, when i try to start it nothing happens, i have pulled plug out and it is white and doesnt even smell like gas , is there anyone that can help?

Overheated: White, Blistered, Melted Electrode

* Lean air/fuel mixture
* Spark plug heat range is too hot for operating condition of the engine
* Plug is not properly gapped and/or torqued onto head
* Overly advanced timing
NOTE: Took it from the thread "How to read Spark Plugs" in the Do it Yourself area.

it has a br9es plug and when i kick it over and take the plug out ,the plug dont even smell like gas and still looks brand new. someone said that it might be the tors or crank seals?

get a br8es plug that thing is way to lean. what size jet is in there right now? you need to jet up. if he still has the stock jet i would try a 270 or 280 to start. make the idle screw and a/f screw are correct too.

i have a stock 230 jet in it . i just removed tors i thought that would help . iit still should atleast get gas to plug shouldnt it

it is getting gas to the plug. its running way to lean. try to jet up. start with a 270 and then do a plug chop. there is a thread on how to do it. you want a brown colored plug. not white, not black.

i smelled the plug and it doesnt smell like gas. still looks brand new if i get a 270 jet is that for the main jetand do i have to change the rest of them also or can i just change that one?

i dont kno i dont have a compression tester ,but it feels like it has good compression. i took plug out and stuck my finger in there to see and its pretty strong, Im stumped it should atleast pop or sputter start or something

even though it feels like its getting good compression it may not be. sticking your finger in the plug hole isnt gong to tell you what your balster compression is. even if your blaster has 60psi it is going to feel like alot on your finger. 60psi isnt enough to start your quad. get a compression gauge and test and make sure you are at least 100psi. If your not its time for a rebuild...again.

i have a 2 stroke dirt bike doing the same thing, found out pilot jet was to lean, went up in the pilot jet and starts fine now, before, would spit sputtter or anything. might want to try changing your pilot jet to a larger size

why dont you pour a little gas in the spark plug hole and see if it wants to start, that will tell you if your getting gas beyond the carb or not, your float could be off so your getting gas to the carb but the float isn't filling up enough to fuel the jet...

by the way when someone's selling a quad you don't know, its almost always "just rebuilt"...invest in a compression gauge ($20) and bring it with you next time...

Blaster bandit i know how you feel dude. I have a 2003 Blaster that will not start ethier. However i have a worse problem. My whole engine seized up on me becasuse when i put the oil injection tube off the tank and put it back on I think the suction was lost ad no oil got to the engine. I talked to a guy who gave me a price on a rebuild and im lookin at 600 bucks to get it done. Parts alone is 425 dollars What should I do.....can anyone help me please!!!!

I agree with regal. I havent seen a blaster on CL yet that doesnt say "fresh top end" or "just rebuilt" or "low hours"

also blasterchirs08, i PM'd you about your problem. Just go ahead and add $30.00 to your $600.00 and invest in an oil block off kit.

$600 sounds like way to much to me! you can do all the labor yourself and spend about $220, thats with all new seals, gaskets, having cyclinder glazed, top end kit!

It's in the flywheel. To test it unplug the white/red and black wire coming from the stator and test it using a multimeter. The resistance should be 72-108 ohms. If its not in those specs. it needs replaced, its only $20 from the dealership but to replace it you'll need to buy a flyweel puller ($10-20).

Maybe you got screwed.
definetly like regal said, pour some gas/starter fluid in that sh*t. but dont over do it with the starter fluid that sh*ts really bad for your rings. then throw the plug in, and kick as fast as a spic.
