ops wrong postin area, how do i delete it?

paulie has a yz400 motor... the yz 490 CAN be a good motor BUT you need to get a diff carb and jet it rigth, also i think somehting with the ports needs to be changed.. i know they were lean from the factory

ya whatsup with vibration winers lol? my counter ballencer gear sheared off and i kept on truggin. just to the barn to be stored till now(still not fixed, have all parts lol). wasnt that bad :D

That would be the head.. more specifically the squish band, terrible design. Once you get that fixed they are twice as reliable and they actually run right. Also like you said a carb thats jetted right makes a big difference too!

Honestly I never see the 465 and 490's turn out right as a hybird.. too many problems, they crack your mounts, pipes are hell to fit and so on. The only one I've seen work out are the 400's like pualie b has. They still need the squish band corrected and a bigger carb, but they won't crack your mounts and pipes are easier to find and fit.

Its a major project no matter what, don't hack up a good frame with a good engine, if you really want to do it pick up a cheap roller and sell what you don't need.. you really don't want a hybird as a main ride, I was told that before but never really listened... now that I'm halfway into one I now understand why.

Good luck dude! welcome to the forum! stick around, you'll learn alot.

thats what it was i couldnt remeber what needed to be corrected...

it could be done and work..
better carb thats jetted right, and a custom pipe would need to be made, send the top end to kennedy and have the issues corrected, and a good port job done,
a good welder to reinforce the frame around the mounts along with thicker mounts, and a +4 swinger would be a minimum to keep that thing somewhat on the ground

you need to rubber mount the motor and bars. the late model 490 and wr 500 motors with the center exhaust ports are much easier to deal with. you can do the conversion in a weekend if you have a welder. the space inthe swingarm needs to be widened just a bit for the motor. the pipe is the tough part. powerpro did mine. the kicker will need to be heated and bent a bit for clearance.

yeah it sounds like alot of work. i think i will just save up for a 240 big bore kit and gear it better. and new tires, my suck in the snow lol

I know this is hella old but any way your putting to much thought into it.Strip it down to the frame and swing arm and take it down and have some one mount it.I have been camping on my creation for some time but am now getting back into it.I found an old blaster that was just a bunch of parts in a tub and pute it togeather.I went ahead and just rebuilt the motor and big board it with wiseco piston and polished. Its fast and snappy but IDK runs to hot and its to much for that little motor not to mension the thought of a dunes.I was lucky enouph to find a pretty much brand new 490 and its just been sitting in my shop.Bottom end is solid but I do half to rebuild top end just piston and ring.I:I.Its a rut deamon for sure.Been waiting to find another frame so I can just take it in and have it mouted. The suspension along with stretching and widening will be a must. Not sure how much clearance for the carb either.May half to run it with out the air box.And going to half alter a pipe to rout it.Its really not that much.It would be nice to find a head that ports in the middle or just an upgraded head alltogeather. And an after market fatty gas tank. But its the closest fit motros are almost identical just need a fab shop to do it for a few hundy.
