Ok guys, so im new to these things, and have been getting lots of help from all of you, thank you very much, but my blaster scared the crap out of me this weekend....

I purchased a carb rebuild kit as i needed the float valve since the old one the rubber nipple cone thingy on top turned to crap, so gas would fill up and pour out the tube, so i had to replace that and replaced some of the other peices while i was in there...

I put it all back together and installed it on the quad and turned the gas to on, and it wasnt leaking anymore, so the piece was working.....

I decided to try and fire the thing up, and i did have resistance on the throttle, so the slidey thing was not stuck in the up position......

The thing fired up, and was ok for a second then just started revving like crazy, like wide open.... was loud as hell....

i pushed the switch from run to off, and the thing wouldnt shut off! turned key to off, still wouldnt shut off, the thing just kept going.....

I pressed the throttle in a couple times...... enad eventually after like 30 seconds with everything in off position, it turned off....

my question is, is this normal?? why would this happen?? should kill switch really not kill engine?? and if this ever happened in future, what is a surefire way to stop the damn engine before it blows up?? What if i was in gear and this happened and i couldnt get it in neutral, just hop off and let it go???

Thanks!

is your throttle moveing free feels good stuff liek that .. if your throttle got stuck open that would cause it to go WOT on you .. idk why the kill swithes didnt work.. next time it does that pull in the cluch and drop it into gear and stall the motor out ..

the switch should have killed the engine and no its not normal ofr it to do that, check the throttle to see if it isnt stuck, and check the lil screw thats under the seat by the air filter,if its turned all the way over theres your problem and i dont know what else

2 strokes dont need 'spark' to run. The cyclinder wall can get hot enough to ignite the gas. When you hit the 'kill' switch all that does is stop the spark plug from sparking. But if the cylinder wall is hot enough, the motor will keep running, sucking in more fuel and air.

The only way to 'stop' the motor is either stall it, or cut fuel

yup, you can always just turn the petcock to off. but she'll run till the bowl's empty.
i'd say that means you've probably got an air leak somewhere. since all you did was rebuild the carb, the leak is probably on the carb boots. make sure they're tight.

yea this same thing happened to me....turned out that it was a leaky crank seal....Regal on here helped me to fix it....you should get a leak down test and see if and where you are leaking from...a lean mixture..a.k.a. lots of air, will make it rev up like that and get the engine real hot...good luck!

it started running off compression. theres a turn for it but its like nitro powered model planes, you put electricity to the glow plug, get the motor started, and take away the "spark" and it runs off compression, the gas ignights under pressure. only way to stop it would be kick it up a couple gears and brakes and stall her out.

reason it might have done that is air leak. check around the intake boot for cracks and check to make sure everythings all clamped down. try it again, and if it doesnt, get a bottle of carb cleaner and spray connections on the intake, if it revs up, theres an air leak there. make sure everythings tight first before you test for air leaks cuz it could just happen again.

+1 .
My guess is one of your crank seal jes blew.
Besides putting it in gear and stalling it out you can put the choke on.

Yeah mines done that too, I think its called pre-ignition(if its not im sure someone will correct me). You may want to check your jetting and make sure your pilot jet isn't too lean. or as suggested before an air leak could lean it out. Either way a lean condition is what generally causes this problem. For me I was cleaning up my carb when I first got my bike and I decided to plug off what I thought was an un-used opening to keep out dust and water. all the sudden when It started, same thing rev to the moon and couldnt kill it.
I ripped off the plug wire and when that didnt work I put it in 6 and stalled it.

UPDATE--

Ok, not my proudest moment, but i realized that i forgot to tighten the round clamp that goes on the front of the carb, could this have been my problem?? i was afraid to start it back up after tightening this, lol

also, someone said they clogged up a hole in the carb, is this hole circled in this picture...(stole the pic from on here, thanks....) supposed to have a screw in it? when i was putting carb back together i had an extra screw, and it fit in here, so i assumed i took it out of here, but i didnt remmeber doing it... but i did put the screw in this hole....

thanks for the help guys!!

The loose clamp could have been the problem, just fire it back up and be ready to hit the kill switch as soon as it starts going out of control. if you get to it before it builds up too high it wont have enough heat to keep itself running also be ready to stall it out in 6th if necessary

I'm not a 2-stroke expert but I do have some experience. It's always the simplest things first. Honestly sounds like your idle mix screw is set wrong (too wide open) and/or you have an air leak. My thoughts; the cold-start warmed up and then the carb went to work (with an idle mix screw too far open).

Solution:
Try closing the screw and turning it out 1.25 turns. You can probably get it running but only by feathering the throttle. After a minute or two, try turning it out slowly so you end up around 2.5 total turns out. This should be around the stock position.

Quick Kill Solution:
Wearing gloves, place your hand over the tip of the silencer. Your back pressure will choke out the motor (if there are no air leaks) . Note: This also comes in somewhat handy as a poor mans air leak check.

If the idle is high because of an air leak, Grab your brakes and drop the thing in gear.
