k, i got a 2000 blaster. just put toomey, k&n, airbox mod, jetted and a tk needle. problem is when i start it it revs to max rpm and i have to shut it down.
i read on here how to adjust the idle, tried that but now it wants to go from idle to high rpm and everything in between all by its self.
now the last time i tried it it revved so high i though it was going to explode, so i hit the kill switch, didn't do anything!! i pulled the spark plug wire, still revving!!!??? so i jerked out the choke and it finally died. WTF!!! WAS THAT ALL ABOUT???

sounds to me like you got your carb. slide in backward unscrew the top of the carb. pull the slide out and make sure you get it in right,,, had this happen more than once with stock carb,,, i didnt want mine to blow up one time so i kicked it in gear in the garage, now that a wild ride =)

I had the same problem i dropped the needle one notch it worked for my 98 blaster if that dont work drop your main jet down one size.

yep that kicking it in gear 2 kill engine can be 1 hell of a ride...i allmost went throu a paint booth with mine

how do you check the tors system? i am pretty sure i have the slide in the right way. i can see it when i have the carb away from the itake and i look to be almost down all the way.
it seems like it didnt do this the first time i put the carb back on, but it was running really fat so i raised the needle up one notch to 3rd from top and jetted down. now it seems to have a good mixture just wants to self detonate.
thanks for all the replies i'll check some of that stuff tomorrow, kinda afraid to start it again! =) but i'll probably leave the filter tube off so i can put my hand over the carb intake if needs be, and slap that bit@# into submission.

Its pre ignition bud.

Old blaster? lots of carbon could have built up on the top of the piston and on the head, increasing the compression. Combine high compression with a low octane fuel, you get pre igntion. Try running higher octane.

Jetting can also play a major rule, be aware of air leaks. Air leaks result in a lean condition, making your engine run very hot, and more prone to pre ignition.

When i had my blaster, the carb slide stuck open. I was in 4th gear, hit the kill switch and nothing happend. Talk about a scary ride, i shifted it into 6th in hope off stalling her out with no luck. I ended up running into a tree, that stopped it in its tracks...

my buddy's blaster is doing the same thing and its an 2000 model. Scary sh*t when it hangs wide open lol

yea, it worked good. I wish i would of had brakes on my blaster, that would have made it alot safer.

woot!!! woot!!!

got it figured out. the cable going to the slide was sticking appearantly causing it to dump gas and rev the engine, got er all dialed in today, thanks for the help guys.
