Hello all:

I bought a mid '90s Blaster for my son. Shortly after buying it, the clutch stopped working. Near as I can tell, there's something wrong with the pin that runs from the bottom lever through the case over to the clutch basket. I can't see the end of the pin from the clutch side. Do I need to pull the clutch basket to get at the pin?

If that wasn't enough. We continued to ride it w/o the clutch, and now the quad won't go, even though it shifts into gear the output shaft doesn't turn the chain. I can push the quad around like it's in neutral, even though it's in gear. Any ideas?

Thanks

Wow that clutch sounds toasty. Personally I would pull the cover and examine it. Or is that where you are at now?

The rod is two pieces with a ball in the middle, the clutch side is attached to the nut in th middle of the basket. Don't remove this nut at this time, it is the clutch adjuster. Also don't lose the ball if you take it apart. Remove the screws that have the springs under them to examine the plates. Post pics if you know how or save them to an album in your profile.

Here is a manual. www.rydindirty.com/blastermanual.pdf

/\/\/\/\ sounds like the clutch plates are shot, but you could try this, one time when i just got this blaster the locking nut came loose, and all it took was a little adjusment......................

pull the clutch cover, loosen the locknut and screw, back the shaft out a little, (the adjustment shaft in the middle of the clutch basket) then where the cable connects to the motor lever, theres a notch that lines up, look on the engine lever for the little point and a mark on the case, line these up, make sure it doesnt move while adjusting, a freind would be good here, then move to the other side, tighten the rod in with a small straight screwdriver till you feel it touch, back it off 1/2 a turn,
then tighten the locknut, <<<<definately use locktite here, mine almost came loose, and thats disaster, then reconnect the cable to the hand lever, and adjust your slack i also did this with the wheels off the ground, so i could spin them with the clutch lever pulled in,to see if the wheels spun free, or if there was engine lag as i released it, before i put it all back together
