im having some clutch problems with my 98 blaster i was riding it and went to shift into 5th gear and had almost no resistance on the clutch i checked the cable and it is still tight and not broke but the lever the cable connects too on the left side of the moter is moving up and down i can easyly pull it up and down it feels like i could pull it out if the carb wasent in the way. can any one tell me what the problem is with the lever or is that normal if it is the problem what do i need to do to fix it?

sounds like you held the clutch in too long at high rpm's and welded the ball bearing to the inner rod, you'll need to pull the clutch cover and pressure plate to get to it and replace with a new clutch side rod and ball bearing.

and the clutch actuator does actually pull right up and out fairly easily.

here's the manual to guide you thru replacing it........

okay i might have to look into it then all u have to do is take the clutch cover off and then do u have to remove the basket?

Basket does not need to be removed.Remove clutch cover and gasket, remove the 5 clutch springs and bolts, pull the pressure plate off and then you should be able to get the inner rod and ball out.Hoping it's not welded too badly.

no clutch basket removal, or even the fristion.steel plates

drain trans oil, remove footpeg, kicker, clutch cover, the 5 clutch springs and the pressure plate will pull right off, watch ball bearing doesn't roll out, look for ball bearing welded to the end of the inner rod
then get back to us

well i tryed to do it on my own i couldent get the kick starter off. also the clutch cable did break but when i pull the wire the clutch still doesent work

I'm not tryin to be a a-hole or anything but there should be absolutely NO reason why you can't get the kicker off ... All you have to do is remove one nut and pull the kick start off. Was it stuck or something ? Sometimes you have to turn the kicker clockwise to loosen it up, or give it a few love taps with a rubber mallet.
