Hi everyone! My buddie bought a 97 blaster and it has been bogging down like it's running rich. It has 230 main 32.5 pilot jet. Stock filter, lid on, some kind of pipe but stock expansion pipe. It seemed to run better with the lid off so we think most likely rich. We are at sea level. We recently rebuilt the top end thinking it might help but the same problem it Boggs from start does not hit powerband. When revved in neutral it does not seem to rev free. The previous owner did the tors delete. And from what I have read on here he did it right. I have. I have changed the coil since I had a spare from my ltz400 which was the same minus the boot same thing. What could cause it to run rich on stock jetting. Could it be possibly.the cdi? I have never owned a 2.stroke and am going crazy trying to fiigure.it out. Any input would be great. Is the cdi the same from a 04.. Our friend has one and I can swap it so I can at lease rule that out?

Yes tried adjusting it to close sooner still the same thing

You adjusted it "closer" then what does it measure, is it within spec?

Best method is the clear tube from the drain but carb needs to be removed from boot and level

What oil are you using?

Do you pre mix if so what ratio.

Lift the float bowl drain tube up above the float bowl gasket and crack the drain screw open.

The level of the fuel will be level with the carb body roughly half way along the carb body.

If it is not, search for float level setting.

I did not actually measure the float setting just slightly moved it in to see if there was any difference but the re wasn't. I believe he is using yamaha injection oil. Thanks every1 for the help. Any input is great as I am more of a 4 stroke guy

Wether a 4 stroke or a 2 stroke, both require that the float level be accurately set to provide the correct AFR.

You need to investigate what the fuel level is because if it is too high it may run rich.

How is the air filter when it comes to cleanliness?

After rebuilding did you leak test, perform heat cycles and re tension the head and jug nuts.

Did I really read that you rebuilt the top end because you thought it would cure a rich condition!

Make sure TORS brain is unplugged. Clean carb. SET FLOAT LEVEL !! Check choke/enrichener , might be leaking.
Make sure main jet is screwed into emulsion tube with washer under it. Also make sure float shuts fuel off when it reaches level.

Thanks everybody for your help. Ended up being the replacement choke lever was wrong and letting in too much fuel. Thanks for the help
