hey guys im new to the forum as well as the world of 2-strokes. I just bought a blaster from a guy on Craigslist. The bike starts in 2-3 kicks and idles pretty rough, when I kick it into first and let off the clutch it stalls. I know for a fact that it needs new reeds could that be it? He said it was bored out to a 240 and needed stage 2 jets to run properly is that true? Thanks in advance.

Also, when I pulled the reed valve out it had fuel on it. Is this normal? I know I'm a complete noob, take it easy on me.

It is most likely not a 240. all it is is stock cylinder bored 40 thousandths over, i dont remember exact ccs but its like 203 or something.
what makes you think it needs new reeds? are they cracked or not sealing?
Does it rev fine in neutral?

one of the pedals are cracked. it won't idle more than 3-4 secs without me having to tap the gas to keep it from dying.

for the stage 2 jet kit, i dont think you need any new jets for just being bored out. what mods are on the quad?
mods will determine the jets needed.

Not being a fly in the ointment, but if he was wrong about it being a 240 big bore, without proof that it's a 3 mm stroke, I would highly be doubting it. My opinion. But even so, you shouldn't need to rejet for that. You will need to for the pipe. Is the airbox stock? With or without the lid? You will need to jet for the airfilter also if the lid is off. Is the filter clean? What is the air mix screw set at? Have you leak tested the motor? More will chime in to help as well. You will need to plug chop to confirm jetting. But only when you fix your problem with the reeds and leak test first.

Forget about the jet kit, they seldom contain any usable jets, buy them seperatly.

Start with a #290 and plug chop, if the only mods you have are what you stated.

it could be advisable to leak test the engine, as the bike is new to you.

And it would be a good idea to compression test as well, the guy doesn't really sound like he knows much bout 2 strokes either, but he thinks he does lol. Toss those reeds, use genuine mikuni jets and follow the others ^^^ instructions. Welcome to the forum as well. Lots of good info and people to help you here!!

Start with a good carb cleaning. Completely dissasemble. Make sure you can blow compressed air through all passages you can see. Make sure you can see through main and pilot jet. Wouldn't hurt to pull main jet/emulssion tube, as there are small holes on side that can't be seen. set float height.
Make sure fuel screen on pet weiner is clean, and tank cap vent is clear.
As to reeds, replace them. They may work somewhat now, but you will be deep in the woods when they fail. Vito's or boysen dual stage are best choice.

The software automatically inserts a substitute word for c**k.

Petcock should pass un interfered with.

And guess what it did with flying colours!
