2002 blaster was running good till it bogged down way out in the country. i was riding and it lost power then it locked up for about 5 mins then it started and i rode for 30 secs and did the same thing. took it home and it started but i heard a ticking noise. after that it would backfire when i kicked it. thats it.

sounds like it seized, gonna have to tear into it, before you do more damage

locked up as in you couldn't kick it over? sieze of some sort or maybe far fetched but how about a fly wheel key sheared? would explain power lose and backfiring/kick back but doesn't explain being locked up, either way best of luck to ya let us know what happened

I think, as an ASE mechanic...Possibly a grizzly bear climbed into the cylinder and may be wedged in the reed cage. Typically, this will restrict the air intake and will cause an "over-rich" condition which= No start. Or, Mr. Oconnor and his wealth 'o education would tell you it's mechanical in nature (the problem) and would require a proper teardown to visually inspect the rotating assembly. But, you decide.... I would keep the shotgun close by.

taking the head off would be a good place to start, but it wont tell the whole story. slide off the jug and inspect the piston and cylinder walls. its a 10 minute job. just be sure to have gaskets ready as they will more than likely tear when taking the jug off.

get back to us with a report

Def seized, whatever the reason. You coulda been running lean, you didn't mention your jetting. As mentioned before, check the flywheel key, make sure it didn't shear. That would affect the timing.

It would be worth the price of a gasket set to see the inside of that cylinder.
