Trying to figure out how to take the drum brake off the spindle. I got the hub part off already, but the rest doesn't want to move. Any ideas? I'll try to get a pic in a couple minutes.

I got that part. Here's a pic to better illustrate what I'm doing.

Before I convert them they are usually off the bike but... I put a chunk of aluminum on the garage floor and the nut back on the end (upside down) so I don't smash the end of the threads. Then I hang onto the backing plate and bash the castle nut on the aluminum block on the garage floor. Sometimes a bit stubborn.

In your case I would get an aluminum (if you plan on re-using the backing plate) punch. and start banging the punch with a heavy headed hammer (heavy head = shorter swings=no frame shots) around the backside of the backing plate near the axle and steering knuckle mount.

Yours doesn't look too corroded so it shouldn't take much. Not much of a press on the pot metal backing plate.

I'm replacing the backing plate with a non-broken one so I'm not worried about it. I just don't want to screw up the ball joints by pounding on the plate with the spindle still on the a-arms. Sounds like I should just remove the spindle. Thanks for the info.

BTW, norman420, how much do you charge for converting spindles for 03+ discs?

smack it from the back with a BFH !!!!! or rubber mallet if ya got one,
and norm's spindles are $100
