I know that head gaskets can be annealed and reused but can a base gasket be reused? I put my new top end together, torqued everything to spec, ran the leak down which failed due to a stripped out intake bolt hole.
Top end was tore back down, cylinder removed, drilled and retapped the 4 intake holes. Engine was never started or ran. I already have a new gasket ordered and will be here in a few days but wasn't sure if the base gasket can be reused or not.
Thanks!

It's a good idea to use new gaskets any time you replace or rebuild anything internally ... If you don't wanna wait for the new one theres no harm in using the old one as long as you leak test and there's no leaks. Give it a try ! I would still recommend swapping the old gaskets with new ones once you get them.

Alright, I too am weird about using new stuff all the time but wasnt sure since it was never even started and was only compressed for 2 days before getting tore down.

There ain't nuffin weird about wanting to always use new gaskets.

If a job is worth doing, it is worth doing properly.I:II:I

Amen to that. Sometimes I wonder what people think when they repair things. Picked up a project quad and decided to put some new wheels and tires on. Previous owner used nails instead of cotterpins, yeah it may work and be just a good but how hard is it to go buy a .05c cotterpin. Oh well, at least I know my equipment will be used with genuine parts designed for that application and if something fails then I will know it wasnt becuase of my lack of doing a job correctly.
End of rant lol
