Anyone know the purpose of this?

Why do these clutch disk's have this little point on them? They stop being a perfect circle and have this protrusion instead. What purpose doe's this serve? I looked through the manual, but didn't see anything to explain it.

You are supposed to space these "points" two openings in the clutch basket apart. It should say in the clutch installation part of the manual how to do it.
 
I'll have to read that section again, I didn't see anything about these points. Still do you know what these points do? I'm just curious. Do they maybe somehow splash more trans fluid into the friction disks?

I re-read the engine assembly section on the clutch and couldn't find anything about these. I'm sure the Japanese engineer's designed these disks this way for a reason. I just don't want to go to Japan to find out why:D
