Am I doing overkill here?

My boss gave me a 97 blaster to use all winter for free, he said if I like it I can buy it for a good price. Since my boss was being nice letting me use the quad I figured I would fix it up alittle bit, I installed a new clutch pack and I'm waiting for my shorty rear brake cable, since the stock one is froozen and I heard there bad even if they work. I dont feel like putting anymore money into this thing unless I buy it for now. I know if I buy it I will do the oil block off kit from Vito's and mix my own fuel. But in the mean time I'v been using the oil pump as intended but also pouring in a little echo 2cycle oil mix in with the straight gas to play it safe (Echos one bottle per 1 gallon of gas, I'm putting half that with two gallons of straight gas). Are there any draw backs are reasons why I shouldn't do this other then I'm guessing fouling spark plugs alittle sooner are a slight loose of power. I figured I would play it extra safe just so I don't get stuck overhauling the motor in the winter when I should be riding it.

Also If I do buy it are there any engine shops you guys recommend I could send my whole motor off to and get it worked. 240 kit with 3mm stroker crank, ported, polish, better carb, ignition, anything else I would need. They would test run the whole thing and tune it and send it back so all I had to do was install it?

Edit: looking at http://flotekperformance.com/home or http://www.factory7atv.com/PBengine.htm For doing the work.

ive seen pics of flotecs cylinder work and mannn its nicceee..best port job i have ever seen .
ive seen pics of kenedys work and all i can say is LMAO..looks like a backyard dremmel job.
stay away from kennedy, hire flotec !

Can you ship whole motors to FlowTec and have it worked on? They do it all?

Also I haven't heard any comments on the oil mix subject I asked above. Should I just rely on the factory pump for now (I did bleed it and tested it, it runs fine) or take the extra measures as I mentioned?

if the stock oil pump is working then no you dont need to add any other oil to your gas. and even the amount you are adding isnt enought to help if your stock oil pump did fail. I know that the echo 2 stroke oil is meant to mix 50:1 with one gallon of gas. your mixing 1/2 that amount with 2 gallons of gas. Thats hardly anyting. When you premix your bike its suposed to be 32:1.

As far as engine building there are 3 builders on this forum, wildcard2, flotec and kennedy power. I have heard good things about all three. Just talk to them about sending out your motor and having them build it. From what I have learned from all three builders is that you send them a motor they build it and send it back.

Good luck with your build.

Fabb 3, I understand what your saying. Just so you know I know thats not enough oil to keep the motor running if the pump went out. My thinking was and I read on here, that the pump might not give enough oil on the top end. I figured it would give me better odds of having enough oil for the motor. If I do both things.

Thanks for all the suggestions on the motor work question everyone, I think I will be giving FlowTec a call if I decide to keep the Blaster.

actually the oil injection system mixes 24:1, which is more oil than what we all premix at. the only reason everyone takes it off is b/c it is driven by a plastic gear which is prone to failure, and if it breaks, your out a top end pretty quick.

I understand what I am saying...The blasters arnt blowing up because they pump isnt suplying enough oil its because they are failing and suplying NO oil. That is why most of us have switched to pre mix. And even if the stock pump was not suplying enough oil that small amount of oil you are adding isnt going to help anything.

I get it now. I gathered from older post I read that they where known to not supply enough or fail all together. I was trying to cover for not enough oil, but it seems the real problem is total failure of the pump. I saw that plastic gear your talking about when I did my clutch job.

So i'll just use straight gas and hope the gear doesn't blow out in the mean time. Thanks for the good info.

You HAVE to rejet if you want to add oil and run the injector, because the thicker "premixed" fuel will not flow through the smaller jet as easily. You should rejet when you do the blockoff as well.
Denny "FloTec" does great work and being that you are located in NY would probably be a good bet for cheaper shipping. But we also offer all of the services you are looking for.

Thanks for the heads up. I was reading the spark plug and it looked good, not running lean. As others have mentioned I didn't add that much oil to make that big a difference. I just need the motor to last till the end of winter. So far the motor runs great. After the winters over I'm sending the whole motor somewhere to get a complete look over and have it worked.
