Air/Fuel mixture

2000 blaster completely stock with a uni filter. stock jets has lid on. good power up until higher rpms. hits a wall , starts to bog. the previous owner said his son was tinkering with the air/fuel mixture screw. could this be a contributor for the reason why it starts to bog when i reach higher revs? not getting enough fuel? havnt had a chance to check the plug, just trying to get a couple suggestions where to start.

If it still has the stock jet size, you may need to up it one for the air filter. Your best bet it to do a leak down test then a plug chop. Read up on how to tune carbs.

im gunna throw a stock filter in for the hell of it. if that doesnt work ill have to do a plug chop n go from there

try 1-1/2 turns out to start, then 1/2 turns, in and out, waiting 15-20 seconds to allow engine to catch up to the change,
1/2 turns at a time until you find the position it idles the highest, then very small turns if needed until it revs past 1/2 throttle cleanly
i'm leaning toward lean main jet, float level, dirty carb or reeds cracked/chipped for full throttle bogging

that main should have been bumped up 1-2 sizes for the free'r flowing uni filter

i would not run that bike again until it has a clean, jetted carb, with plug chops, and a leakdown test

Ok I pulled the plug. Really oily. Took the carb all apart and jets and cleaned it really really well. Checked my reeds and they looked really good no chips or anything. The metal plates on them were a little tarnished. Should I replace? Just waiting on something in mm to check the floats. I also am trying to order a leaks own tester from slickerthanyou but I guess he hasn't been on in a while. I'm also waiting on some jets that I ordered.

if the reed petals themselves look good and laying flat against the cage, that tarnish means nothing.
be sure to use a little sealent on the intake gaskets when re-assembling, i like the hi-temp copper permatex.
and should be leak down tested to insure they sealed
i'll see if i can text slick ?

Ok had some time this weekend and changed the reeds fr

Ok had some time this weekend changed the stock reeds to boyseen, did a leak down test. No leaks. I uped the main to a 240 then I did some plug chops. It looked almost perfect as it was a chocolate. Color. I also adjusted the float to factory specs. It still doesn't seem to have the top end that it used to. What would be the next step? Compression test to verify my top end is still good?

Compression test would be a good idea. anything less than 100psi requires a top end rebuild or at least new rings.

If you feel adventureous you could pull the pipe off and check for carbon buildup in the exhaust port.

Well considering I have to go buy a compression tester, I'll pull the exhaust off n check for the hell of it until I get the cash for the compression tester. Thanks again for all the help fellas I almost feel like a mechanic lol
