Air cleaner piping onto carb question

Hi, have a 02 blaster and have found that on the air intake side of the carb the boot will not slide all the way onto the carb however it does bottom out on the reed side. Any ideas? It's clamped on but hanging by a thread and there is a small gap at the bottom thus sucking in air at this point..

What I have seen in the past is stretching the boot. Could either use heat gun or warm/hot water, then stretch over carb, allow to cool.
