I have just saved up enough money to get a new used blaster. i got one about a month ago and it was good when i got it and bought it and a day later it crapped on me. so it was a quick waste of a couple hundered dollars. well i sold that and now im looking into getting another one. For all you familiar with buying quads, dirtbikes, ect.. (( 1. what should i look for when im buying a blaster. what are a few things to knock off the checklist when i got anything fellas please. 2. this guy i want to get the blaster from said it has 7 gears in it. I have never heard of that myself so i wanted to ask you guys maybe if you have. 3. what should i do as soon as i get the bike like before i even ride (top end or what) thank you so much fellas. I really would appreciate your time and comments.

There's not 7 gears in it. Sounds like someone is pullin your leg there. If he's serious about selling it I'd have someone that know a thing or two come check it out because so far the guy selling it doesnt even know what he has I'm guessing

There are many things to ask about.

If this person feels it has 7 gears, then this might be a tell sign of there lack of knowledge with a blaster. it onyl has 6.

Things that I would want to look at.

1- is the engine, but you cant see most of what u need to know.

2- is it stock exhaust ? many people dont change the carb jet, to the right size when they add on extra goodies like that.

3- does the oil injection system work, or has it been blocked off and done right ?

4- is the tors still on there or has it been removed.

5-does it run ? has it been rebuilt at all ?

5A- last time been rebuilt, do they know what it was bored to or when the seals have been last replaced.

6- hows the clutch ? does it slip ? the fibers ever been replaced ?

7, then I woudl to from there to the brakes, do they work well, are the pads in decent shape.

8- hows the sprocket teeth look ?

As soon as I got it, I would clean it up, the cabr, ect, and I would buy or make a leak down tester and test it out.

a compression check would be good too.

You could take pictures and a video clip of it running and maybe give the guy some money to hold it for you and come back here and post the stuff and maybe we can help you, wiht what we see.

oh no doubt im taking someone. now even if there is not 7 gears thats ok right. as long as it runs? or should i stray away? from the pics he has shown he has a few after market parts. and he said the gear was added like custom. is that heard of? even a possibility?

I'd like to see the customization of an additional gear. Especially with all the extras that go into switching to the 7th gear alone. See if you can get pics of the bottom end. If it looks stock...it's gotta be stock. If he's some genius that figured something out we'll notice right away.

I did a search on google. and the only thing I found, is that it is possible, but would be very very costly. So its not likely that it has 7 gears.

Simply take it for ride and go thru the gears. im getting its just 6 gears.

ALso, if he is true to his word with that added 7th...you need to keep in mind that, that motor is COMPLETELY CUSTOM alone. If something breaks in the bottom end you are out of luck because you wont find pieces or parts to match that (crank case, shifting, i'm guessing a longer shaft) things like that will be impossible to find unless you can ask him to make parts as they break (if they ever do)

thats very true what you say about parts if it is. I will ride it around when i get there. and im just guessing that the kid doesnt know what he is talking about. When i get the quad should i put a new piston kit on it. and what else

I think you might be jumping ahead of yourself a little. sorry.

Just that you got to find out what you got first, before jumping to what you want to do.

Maybe u get lucky and its a good deal and dont need much work, if any.

yea but what i am asking is there any bottom line things that should be done as soon as i get her. my last quad blew on my and i got burned, im trying to take ever caution i can.

Go through Sporty's list...that should eliminate a lot of problems to check for. But don't be to quick to turn away from it. If there doesn't seem to be any huge problem and you eventually run into a small one...parts for these are dirt cheap to fix

First thing to do if you get it is a leakdown test.

Compression test, then if it passes the tests.

Then check if it is jetted correctly.

If you run premix, drain out old fuel and premix 32:1 with a quality oil.

Then plug chop.
