Just bought another blaster today...noticed someone re-did the wiring harness, i think they may have done a hackjob on it. I was wondering if the owners manual helps at all or if i should just order a new wiring harness. Also i noticed the coil has is a yamaha coil, but is not a stock blaster coil. The part number is c2t4. Will this work?

No, it doesn't run. The guy i bought it from said he got the coil tested yesterday and it is putting out 15 ohms instead or 24-26 ohms? I'm new to electrical so any help would be nice. I am also putting up a couple of pictures to help give some reference.

There are four wires that come out of the stator. (obviously) Yellow w/red stripe, White w/red stripe, Black w/red stripe, and Black. About 2 feet up the frame I found that the Black switches to a larger gauge Red wire, which goes straight to the coil.

This is where the Black from stator changes to red.

And here is the coil. The Red wire w/ the yellow connector is the same one that you see connected to the Black wire from stator.

i have learned dont take anyones word for something when there the one selling it. i find it hard to believe that he was selling it but still putting time into testing things to make it run. u can download the manual here, it has a full wire schematic in the manual.

Yesterday i printed the entire electrical section of the manual. Only problem is, I don't exactly know how to read electrical diagrams. I can follow them, but there are some symbols that i have no idea what they are. As for the stator feeding the CDI, How should i change my wiring? Do I need a new CDI?

One other thing, I will put pics up in a little while, I am going to try to get the whole wiring harness into pictures, So that someone will be able to tell me how to fix this. Like I said I am new to wiring, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
AJ

Ok, so this shows an orange wire going from the coil. I followed it up and hit a big bulge of what looks like someone folded the wiring over itself and wrapped that in electrical tape, but the orange wire i found afterwards goes straight to the CDI, which the electrical diagram says is correct.

This concerns me though. That is the same orange wire that comes from the coil, but there is a black wire just dangling with the end stripped...

More pics to come!

Ok, so this first picture will be an off-topic question for this post, but the diagram shows only 1 wire (Orange) powers the coil.

I understand that it is a different coil, but it seems there is no ground on it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to rewire this? Or do I need to have two "in" power wires? I think where that red wire is now is meant for a ground, but I can't be sure yet, so if I take that red wire off the coil, and make a ground there, how does the Black wire from the Stator connect to the CDI? To put it in dumb terms (as that might be confusing) what wire would I connect the black stator wire to, to connect it to the CDI like it should be?

v Also, a hot mess of wires that is in the process of giving me a headache v

v And finally the CDI wiring v

(Orange, Black, White w/red stripe, Black w/red stripe, and Black w/white stripe)

Electrical Symbols | Electronic Symbols | Circuit diagram symbols

there are tons of sites for electrical wire symbols. blasters are simple wiring. i love electrical problems but to be honest and not to sound like a jerk but if i am not the one trouble shooting its usually more headaches then its worth trying to explain. this is more of a hands on/issue in front of me kinda thing. there are steps and tests that the manual explains and what your DVM should be reading when these tests are performed

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

by the way there is a ground. your chassis/frame is the ground for the coil. the 2 metal tabs that are sticking out of the coil with the bolt hole though them are the grounding points for the coil.

That is what I thought. You can see in the pictures of the coil that there is a ground on the "front" and the red wire is in the other ground. Rep for you, Sir. :)

HI

the coil has 2 wires one (orange ) from cdi the other is ground but most coils have ground connection on the body , my guess is that the stray black wire is meant to go to ground. One of the wires from the stator (i think) goes to ground.

If it was me i would remove all the non stock wires and find out what is missing (if any) wire and rebuild that part of the harness
just go from the scematic and start one by one checking wires and rebuild one by one whatever wires are missing.

Do yourself a favor and remove the TORS wirering (less stuff will help you making it less confusing)

Now that I have some of an idea of how this wiring should be, there are only two questions left. What's up with the dangling black wire that is pictured on page 1, I know it has a purpose but I have a headache now (yes this wiring has finally got me a headache.) but I can't seem to fully understand it's purpose.

Next question is where do I splice in the black wire from the stator into the CDI?

i dont know why people use all kinda of colors, that just shows there shade tree mechanics. anyone that tinkers with electrical should have a few feet of different color wires so when they "rewire" things they use the same like color. the RED coming off the mounting point of your coil should be ground why they used red is beyond me. also is the coil is mounded to the frame it should not even need its own ground like that. just make sure where its mounted is CLEAN and paint free. same for any grounding points they need to be bare metal clean. if i was you i would do yourself a favor and get some rolls of different color wire even used wire is OK i have been known to use runs of used wire i have taken out of junk cars from a junk yard there you can find different odd colors that are hard to by on the spool. remember make all you connections tight and clean the less brakes/connections in a wire the less problems your gonna have.

Thank you. I will do my best to rebuild it.

look in your manual for that black CDI wire and make SURE its a ground before you guess and blow something out. i dont have my manual in front of me or i would look. dont guess with electrical wiring it will cost you. make sure you know where it goes before you hook it up.

Thanks again, I have plenty of different colored wire. So you are saying that if i shave the paint off of the frame where the coil is mounted(if there is any) then i won't have to add an extra ground from the coil to frame?
