A 5 Speed Blaster? wtf

Hi, I just got my first blaster yesterday. It's a 2001 mostly stock. The seller told me it was a six speed but I rode it today and it only is a 5 speed one down, four up.
Ever heard of a 5 speed blaster?

nope. something's wrong w/ it.
look on the left side case cover by the final drive gear. there should be 1N23456 stamped on the plastic.
are you sure that she won't go into 6th? maybe try shifting into 6th stopped and roll the bike back and forth while pulling up on the shifter.....
if not, then pull the right case cover (after draining the oil) and check the condition of the shift drum star and spring detent. if that looks good then it's probably your shift fork.

are you shure your counting right because i thought i had a 5speed for that longest time but its really a 6speed and mine is a 93 soooo...
i beleive you are not counting right orrrrr theres something wrong

I was wrong...

OMG! I went out and counted and you are totally right! I was counting wrong. I would have bet money it only had 5 but it does have 6. What a relief!

Next Question:
The kick start does not come back up by itself, i have to raise it back up and I have something rigged to hold it in place after it starts.
The kid I bought it from told me he "forgot" to wind the spring. Is this easy to do? He said I have to take the cover off to wind it. Will any parts fall out or anything I should know about taking that cover off?

you don't have to wind anything, you just have to set the spring in the correct stops.
search in the diy section, someone posted a how to w/ pix.

no nothing will fall out except the oil. drain the oil first, and remove the kick start arm and oil injector cover/pump.
