Hello, I was riding my 89 Blaster with a friend last night. We were screwing around and I was standing on the front bumper. All of the sudden the engine starts reving, we hit a soccer net and it stalls. After I start it up again it starts reving again. We start pushing it home but I decided I would try it one more time. First kick and its running fine. We continue riding and it starts doing it again. If I rev it high it will take a while to go back down to idle. I was thinking it was the tors but I dont know if it would cause this. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you may have developed an air leak.

Leak test to see if it is airtight!

I have witnessed this happen, the problem may be a cracked carby boot.

Sounds like an airleak.
Better get it leak down tested before running it again and possibly frying.
Could be carb cap loose, intake/reeds gasket area sprung a leak, or crank seals. The only way to know for sure is a test.
There's a DIY to build and use a tester, or message if you'd rather just buy one for cheaper than building one :)

Ok, It was running perfect before. I think my dad may have one at work. Ill see if he can brink it home. Probably the split boot.

That could be the problem!
I just tried a temporary fix of taking off the retainer and taping it up real good. Better job than it was before.I think it might be a simple adjustment because it used to always start 2nd kick and now its first. I think I might just need to adjust the carb but why would it just be a problem all the sudden?

Order a replacement for this now. and do not run it.

tape will only hold up for a short time, and under hard riding probably melt

You can see how it goes, but is that unfair price more than a rebuild? Prob not! If it passes a leaktest with that tape, then maybe you'll be alright, but I would be leaktesting every 30 minutes of riding with that jerry-rig. Cost of exhaust gaskets would add up quick. Btw how does that tape hold up to fuel?

It holds up really well to the fuel. My dad is bringing home a tube of high temperature RTV so im going to seal up the whole intake system. If I still have a problem im going to investigate the carb and rebuild it. My handguards just came in from the mail yesterday so im going to install those. I just greased up the suspension and looked at the cable. Doesnt seem to be a problem. I wanted to see how to plug looked and I was surprised to find out it was only finger tight!! I tightened it up so its good now.

I took off the cable from the thumb. AND IT IDLES FINE!!! When I put it back on, it idles fast. I think I found the problem. Im going to see if I can find anywhere where its being pulled. If I cant find anything ill just adjust the idle.
