My 88 blaster I just bought 100% stock, won't start. It has no spark. I pulled all the plastic off & checked all the connections. I do notice the oil light burns a little when I kick it, but if I cut the headlight switch on it doesn't light up at all. I have extra cdi, coil, control box off of a 2004and all are the same except headlight switch connector. Cleaned carb & installed new air filter. Installed new exhaust, intake, carb bowl gaskets & spark plug after it wouldn't start. Plug appears to get wet when I kick it over. I have a 2002 that runs perfect but I really don't want to swap parts to see if it is coil, stator, cdi, etc.. Any suggestions? Thanks

I had power to the cdi, ignition switch & headlight. Two problems: headlight bulb blown and I removed coil since I had no spark to plug. On the underside of the wire coming from the stator to the coil there was a wear spot. I wrapped with shrink tape and put a rubber sleeve on it. Basically the coil wire was grounding itself to the frame where the wear spot was. It cranked right up, I didnt ride, too cold today for a old person like me!!

The 03-06 cdi's use a different style connector than the 88-02 years. If your spare plugs in the same way as your current one does than it is from the 88-02 years.Glad you got it fixed!!

Glad u got it figured out! Yup, short circuits can make life miserable. X( I'm with you on riding in the cold. Haha. Hell, I'm only 19 and it's in the 50's during the day here in North Texas, yet I still won't do it... :D
