74 honda 250 2 smoker enduro help

im working on a 74? honda 250cc 2 stroke enduro for a friend of mine, it sat for a while ,

he test rode it before he bought it for $150 with title..

i know the carb needs to be cleaned, new air filter, and fresh gas, the guy said he put fresh gas in it BUT it smells horrid and its supposto be injected but is run premix..

there was NO oil in the premix, but was only ran for a few minutes like that, i poured oil in the gas tank and shook it up and she smokes nicely now!!

my listto do thrusday on it is drain and rince the tank, replace fuel filter and air filter, and tear the carb down and clean it.. i knoww aht im doing and you guys know this, the bike will start on the first or second kick but wants to rev to the moon when you hit the choke, i know the carb is dirty..


anyways this is what im trying to figure out.....

with the bike running if you lean the bike to the left it will rev higher and keep going, if you lean the bike to the right it will bog its self out... only thing i can think would be lack of fuel?? like the floats are stuck and not lowering and raising to keep the right fuel hight?? sound about right?...

thisis a piston port 2 stroke no reeds, basicly a old school cr250 air cooled with a electrical system for lights

I can't remember if that has a brass float or not. If it does one side may have sprung a leak. Or it may just be a really dirty, gummed up carb. If you can, soak the carb. Clean the pivot pin good, and if there is green funk on the float try to come up with a way to clean the pivot out. Teenee tiny roll of 220 wet or dry or small dimond bit in dremel.
I have a Clymers manual for those so if you need an answer hit me up.

ill find out more when i tear the carb apart thursday... im trying to think if i still have a stock blaster carb or atc250r carb in my garage if i do i will try to talk him into lettin me put a better carb on.... i should tell him its junk and should sell it to me lol

Don't know about the MT/MR , but the CR had a pretty big carb.

that they did.. if i remember right there early early early 80s had a 38? mm stock
